(Marquette County, MI) – There were numerous domestic violence arrests in past 24 hours plus other felonies arrests in Marquette County involving a concealed weapon and even felony drunken driving – and breaking in Escanaba – a woman charged with DV in January calls 911 from a place she is not supposed to be.

As we were about to post this story, a domestic dispute erupted in the city of Escanaba – that shows domestic violence aggressors can be any sex – and sometimes jilted love drives some people to become repeat offenders.

Heather McEntire and John Gray

Heather McEntire and John Gray

43-year-old Heather R. McEntire of Escanaba, MI called 911 just before 5 a.m. ET Thursday morning and claimed she was assaulted by a man she was not supposed to see.
During this morning’s melee, McEntire was out on bond for a Jan. 15, 2018 arrest for domestic violence in Delta County.

John Gray

The victim in that assault – 47-year-old John Robert Gray of Escanaba, MI – told 911 this morning that Heather and her brother attacked him.

As part of McEntire’s pretrial bond, she was ordered to stay away from Gray and not to visit his home.

Heather’s brother 46-year-old Jason Parker McEntire of many addresses in Delta County.

McEntire is also known as Heather Sirois; and she used to live in Bark River, Green Bay and Knoxville, TN.

Gray claimed that the siblings McEntire illegally arrived as his apartment at 416 First Avenue South “came in and assaulted him,” the dispatcher told responding officers.

Marquette Police responded just after 10 p.m. ET Wednesday night to a report of a possible domestic violence situation turned into hit and run.
The incident was reported at 700 Homestead St in Marquette, MI.
“Responded to a domestic situation that has now turned into a hit and run PDA (property damage accident),” the dispatcher told police headed to the scene not far from Grove Street and the bypass.
In the rear parking lot, a witness told 911 dispatchers that “a male and a female were involved in a domestic situation,” the officers were told via radio from HQ.
The blonde female ‘got in a white Jeep” and “sped out of the parking lot to get away from the male,” officers were told.
The male got into an older red passenger car and “was leaving in a hurry,” a 911 dispatcher to responding officers
The male, now a suspect, “apparently struck a black in color car in the parking lot,” he said, adding that due to darkness the exact make and model of the red car was not visible.
The red car should “have front and rear damage,” the dispatcher said.
The witness told police that the couple was involved in a previous domestic situation about one month ago.
On the east side of the apartment building, police found a damaged red Ford Taurus.
Its is unclear what became of the investigation.

A Gwinn man was arrested Friday night for a domestic violence incident in which he allegedly used a knife.

This afternoon, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department has issued a “be on the lookout” (BOLO) for the man allegedly armed with a knife during a domestic incident.

“The subject is wanted for questioning in the a domestic situation where he did (allegedly) use a knife as a threatening tool,” the BOLO stated.
That BOLO was canceled tonight when the man was taken into custody.

39-year-old Stephen Wayne Field Jr., of Gwinn, MI was arrested on Friday night, April 20, 2018.

The BOLO was readout about 6 hours earlier to all regional law enforcement during a broadcast to all cars by Negaunee Regional Dispatch.

The BOLO said Field was driving a green 2004 F-150 extended cab pickup truck (rusty truck) for questioning in a domestic violence incident involving a knife

“He is possibly armed with said knife,” the dispatcher said during the BOLO.
Field has former addresses listed in Palmer, Negaunee, Ishpeming, and Marquette, MI.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a 17-year-old Marquette County youth was arrested Thursday afternoon for domestic battery – and she registered a .08 on a portable breath test (PBT) that measures alcohol intake. U.P. Breaking News has made an editorial decision not to release the young woman’s name because it was her first offense – and her young age and potential to learn from the experience.

And no arrests were made Thursday night in Delta County, when it was reported a youth had punched his girlfriend in the face.

A third party tipped off police who said the victims that had confided the domestic assault and would deny she was punched if contacted by police. However, police located both the male and female – an apparently decided there was not enough physical evidence or other evidence to warrant an arrest.

These were among numerous domestic violence cases reported since Thursday afternoon across the U.P. including once case that turned into a meth probe and another that led to the arrest of the now ex-Finlandia University Football Coach.

Busted today: Menominee Police return to same residence on domestic violence call, make arrest this time, and are a couple we featured in our story on people with outstanding warrants around the country hiding in the U.P.

(Menominee, MI) – We have an update tonight on one of the men we mentioned in our “armed and dangerous” and “hiding in the U.P.” story about people wanted in other states that are glad the wanted person is in Michigan

One of our examples is jailed tonight in Menominee County, MI.

There was another domestic violence report and arrest this morning Sat., April 14, 2018 at that same home in Menominee, MI as yesterday.

Today Menominee Police answered yet another domestic dispute call at 1517 46th Avenue – and one half of the dispute went to jail this time.

In our article on people living in the U.P. with warrants from other states – we told you about the occupants of the home 53-year-old Joseph Roy Feltus and his 40-year-old wife, Laura Susan Feltus.
It is unclear what Feltus allegedly did to his wife today, however a dispatcher told responding officers that she allegedly bit him.

Feltus was one of several examples we gave in a story yesterday (Friday) about people living in the U.P. who have serious warrants in other states – but many states do not extradite from the U.P.

In fact, many warrants issued by U.P. counties only have a pickup radius of surrounding counties – its about law enforcement under-staffing, few officers actually on the road daily, and costs of driving – for example of sending Houghton officer to Mackinac County (and roundtrip back to home jail with prisoner) etc.

The Friday NCIC check revealed Feltus has a computer warning from Colorado authorities with an “officer safety caution” and declaring the Feltus is considered “armed and dangerous” out west.

Joe Feltus was arrested today, Saturday, April 14, 2018 on a domestic violence related allegation and booked into the Menominee County Jail. His wife was not arrested.

Joseph Roy Feltus has a lengthy criminal history – and while wanted – is safe if he stays in U.P.

Menominee officers investigating the case Friday reported that the couple were separated, argument was over, and no charges will be filed.

Feltus has a warrant out west for felon in possession of a weapon (Felon Carrying Concealed Weapon – CCW) in Oregon.

Oregon cops put a warning on the warrant alleging that Feltus is “armed and dangerous” – yet they really don’t want him – its a non-extraditable warrant. Simply put, other states are thrilled that the wanted person is in the U.P. – making that person Michigan’s problem if additional crimes are committed.

He has been convicted of crimes – including battery – in the states of Oregon, Florida and Georgia: Battery touch or strike (battery), criminal mischief, out-of-county warrant, misdemeanor probation, Failure to appear warrant, fugitive other jurisdiction warrant

Feltus has long history of arrests in Mesa County, CO; Clifton, CO and Cedar Edge, CO; Brevard County, FL; Melbourne, FL; and St. Johns County, FL.
He has past addresses in those states and in Phoenix, Arizona.
Feltus aliases: Joe Roy Feltus, Joe Feltus.

Two more DV stories they do not want you to know about: Man arrested today after call that baseball bats were being used in an argument between a Marquette County couple – and an arrest this morning for domestic violence on grounds of a U.P. (Marquette County, MI) – Friday the 13th is turning out to be a bloody day for Upper Peninsula women.

A man was booked into the Marquette County Jail early today after a domestic violence call involving a baseball bats.

Meanwhile another man was booked a short while ago for “a DV on the Rez,” an Marquette County Sheriff’s Department deputy radioed to the Marquette County Jail.

Little is known about these cases, and don’t expect the cops to tell you.

Marquette County has listed some of the arrests on Vinelink but Mobile Patrol seems to be permanently down for the entire U.P.

“She hit him with a bat,” stated a dispatcher, adding the male suspect allegedly used the bat on a vehicle.

The dispatcher even stated that the neighbors were worried about the male suspect’s well-being due to numerous arguments with the female half of the incidents.

53-year-old Jeffrey Paul Norman (address unconfirmed) was arrested on a domestic assault/violence charge.

Norman has online past addresses in Rock, Gladstone, Perkins and Aurora, Colorado.

Meanwhile – 42-year-old Brian Allen Johnson (address unconfirmed) was arrested about 7 a.m. ET this morning, Friday, April 13, 2018 for that alleged assault on a Native American reservation apparently in Marquette County.

If you have a photo of Mr. Norman or Mr. Johnson – please send it to us.

There were numerous DV calls during the night across the U.P. – but only this one arrest. Many agencies convince victims not to file charges. Despite an assault.
Please keep us informed about DV in your area – we will actively pursue these cases in the name of public decency.

——-

While spending the once magic summers in the U.P. as a kid – always thought the elected officials here were extra honest. Boy was I duped.

Editorial on state of the DV and assault jail cover-ups in the U.P.:

Have you noticed we are the only media who really cares about this – all the other media hide behind mama’s apron – because of their needs to get lifeblood press releases from the cops (way after the fact, hardly news).

In fact, some media has wanted to see mobile patrol end because we have made the U.P. media look like the lame lapdogs that they are.

Purple DV RibbonOur question is to the women’s groups in the U.P. – do you folks support not identifying the suspects and not reporting to public the disposition of the DV cases???

If even the women’s groups are going along with the sheriff’s and prosecutors who like it covered up – God help the women of the U.P.

If the women’s groups do not go along with coverup – then why are they quiet as a mouse about it???

We expose all this because – one day – with more enlightened officials in charge – the pathetic U.P. abusers will be exposed.

Like the prisons, many will have to die before changes are made.

All need to be booted from office for dereliction of duty to protect the public from violent people.
Then there are the Mushroom Yoopers who like being raised in a vacuum. They prefer to believe the jolly TV newscasts – happy happy, joy joy (unless cops give the media permission to run a story via news release).

U.P. TV/Radio/Newspapers constantly coverup the arrests of wealthy advertisers and community leaders – we have proven that many, many times.

Now every law enforcement agencies and jail in the U.P. is violating the law by keeping the names/charges secret.

I am surprised Yoopers do not demand their rights – but media and crooked elected officials want it secret.

The reason – even last week we revealed a PPO case involving a powerful U.P. business man that was swept under the rug by U.P. media.

I hope young future reporters and future directors of U.P. women’s centers – decide they will not tolerate this. It may take 20 years and lots of black eyes, but hopefully one day the sun will shine on this scourge.

This is so disgusting its beyond words. We can only surmised they either sympathize with abusers (heard one cop in western U.P. has beaten women in his life without consequence, working on exposing him).
Until U.P. residents start demanding that their right to know – then your rights keep slipping away. The media will never take action like it has in other areas of the country.
The Boss Hogg cops and prosecutors will never tell the public about DV cases because they do not want you to know.
U.P. prosecutors treat the cases like they are not important and meant to be plea bargained away (they often even blame victim for having second thoughts about having their abuser prosecuted – and defense attorneys know it).

Lately U.P. law enforcement has started completely hiding all their arrests from Mobile Patrol, because of the crooked prosecutors and sheriff’s who do not want you to know what is happening.
They are embarrassed after running for office claiming to be tough on DV – when they are really soft and will plea down any and all cases – and we wonder why DV is only getting worse.

DV suspects know they will likely serve little time – so why not pummel the woman they “love.” Woman on woman DV is also a problem.

Only minorities in the U.P. have their DV cases thoroughly prosecuted. Heard about a case in Chippewa County where black suspects were jailed for year – no trial – and then released with no charges but stuck with huge attorney bills.

Some U.P. wreck/towing companies are being financially wrecked due to alleged cronyism, favoritism, nepotism, corruption, and the good ole boy network in the U.P. wrecker business – But the worst appears to be in Houghton County where – despite a “list wrecker” system – One company is favored by getting extra towing calls thanks to state and local law enforcement. Plus that favored business – Superior Service Towing – also gets the maintenance and tune-up work for the same police agencies – MSP, MTU Police, and Houghton County Sheriff’s Department

Superior Service Towing of Houghton/Hancock is getting a sweet deal from local and state law enforcement who are allegedly sending extra business his way and ignoring the “list wrecker” rotating system designed for equality and fairness – Including Michigan State Police, the Michigan Tech University Department of Public Safety, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department – and some cities/villages

By Greg Peterson
U.P. Breaking News

Editor’s note – During the course of our investigation new heard from lots of people – and some said the U.P. problem goes beyond Houghton County, however the wrecker company owners who are being cheated are afraid to speak out. Some of those who reached out became sources for this story – but several were afraid to speak out publicly for fear of further financial retaliation by law enforcement.

(Houghton, MI) – The north version of the ‘good ole boy’ network permeates some U.P. law enforcement agencies and seems to be driving who gets the monster share of the lucrative wrecker business across the Upper Peninsula – including the Michigan State Police, Michigan Tech Public Safety and numerous police and sheriff’s departments.

U.P. 911 dispatcher centers across the U.P. operate on a “list wrecker” system that is popular across the country – and theoretically gives a pretty fair shake to all wrecker companies. The catch is – it has to be run fairly and not allow some companies to constantly be skipping to the top of the list – or ignoring the list rotation.

The U.P. wrecker business is somewhat limited but means big bucks because of the countless car-deer crashes and the constant deaths of older cars – that are popular in these low-income and poverty times.

Another “ching-ching” are the notorious six month winters that serve up countless rollovers and wreckers are constantly needed to pull vehicles out of the snowbank.

So far, it appears that Houghton County should get the U.P. award for cronyism, favoritism, nepotism and corruption in the U.P. wrecker business.

Now you may say – “big deal” – its only towing fees – but not so.

A recent example of the huge profits saw a U.P. state senator proclaimed his innocence in Jan 2018 after his name came up in FBI wiretaps involving a multimillion dollar towing empire in SE Michigan – a probe that has sent many to jail including cops and could ensnare lawmakers who did favors for the company.

Mentioned in FBI wiretaps was a downstate lawmaker and Michigan State Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, who chairs the powerful Senate Transportation Committee.

Federal prosecutors say that the daughter of the empire owner was allowed to write an amendment to the state’s transportation funding bill that ensured her dad’s company got huge state contracts worth in the tens of millions (scroll down to read more or links to the excellent coverage by the Detroit newspapers).

Upper Peninsula lawmaker is part of a criminal investigation into kick backs and more in the wrecker business that is rife with corruption – because some dirty cops can steer a lot of money/business to their favorite wrecker service.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In Houghton County, there are six wrecker companies that participate in a “list wrecker” method that is supposed to be impartial and ensure prompt towing. Three towing companies for the northern half of Houghton County and three businesses to cover the southern half (listed below).

However, it appears the list wrecker system strongly favors one company – with a surprisingly open display of cronyism, nepotism and favoritism.

We cannot say its criminal dirty because it is impossible to prove kickbacks without the power of subpoena or an FBI undercover investigation with wiretaps and secretly recorded conversations.

White collar crime across the U.P. is rampant because there are no checks and balances. And the criminals know it. The FBI Office in Marquette has never done a white collar probe because of low staffing and its few agents are very busy with tribal felony issues like domestic violence.

While listening to the police radio closely in Houghton County, its noticeable that business is steered toward Superior Service Towing. In some instances, the officer tells the dispatcher to send Superior Service Towing before arriving on the scene and with little or no knowledge about the crash.

Superior Service Towing of Houghton, MI gets the lion’s share of the list wrecker towing business – and provided tune-ups and maintenance services for the Michigan State Police Calumet Post, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan Tech Police and others.
In fact, the Michigan State Police Post Commander in Calumet has been made aware of this problem several times but nothing has been done to fix the problem, multiple sources told U.P. Breaking News.

For example … Superior Service Towing family members work for the MSP and MTU Police (see below),
The wife of Superior’s owner is a dispatcher for the MTU Police. In addition, another relative works for the Michigan State Police.

The “list wrecker” system in U.P. counties – its basically an agreement between law enforcement and wrecker companies. Just like it sounds, its a rotating list of qualified wrecker companies – and its supposed to be strictly adhered to.

When done fairly and operates on a level playing field, it helps the orderly removal of wrecked and stuck vehicles – while not show financial favoritism. The companies must meet certain requirements like 24-hour two service.
Wrecker companies, cops and “the list” may not sound sexy – but it’s worth a truck load of cash annually for participating companies.

In an unrelated case, a state lawmaker from Escanaba, MI has denied he did anything illegal in a S.E. Michigan towing industry bribery scandal involving payoffs from a towing industry king – whose daughter was allowed to write an amendment to the Michigan Department of Transportation budget that guaranteed their company won a huge multimillion dollar state contract.

Chair of the powerful Michigan Senate Transportation Committee, Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, denies he did anything improper – despite his name coming up on FBI wiretaps in the influence-peddling and bribery investigation of towing titan Gasper Fiore.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Sen. Casperon “possibly” helped Fiore.
The amendment was not needed – and “Fiore was told nearly a month in advance that he would get the contract when it was awarded, which he did,” according to FBI wiretap evidence obtained by the Detroit Free Press.
The newspaper added:

“Along the way, Fiore, who for years dominated the towing industry in southeastern Michigan, appeared to have gotten help from then state Rep. Brian Banks, D-Detroit, and, possibly, state Sen. Tom Casperson, R-Escanaba, who chairs the Senate Transportation Committee, the wiretapped conversations show.”

The FBI probe has led to 18 people being arrested – including two downstate township trustees and numerous police officers including former Detroit Police Deputy Chief Celia Washington.

So far federal prosecutors have won about 12 convictions.
Casperson told the Detroit Free Press that he “met Fiore at a ‘meet and greet’ in the Detroit area and asked for his support when running for Congress in 2016.”
Casperson told the Free Press “he later met in his Senate office with Gasper Fiore’s daughter Jennifer, hearing concerns about the state’s handling of a $2-million-per-year contract the Fiores held with the Michigan Department of Transportation.”
While entering a guilty plea in December 2017, the 57-year-old Fiore “admitted to paying then-Clinton Township Trustee Dean Reynolds bribes in exchange for help in getting a towing contract.”
FBI wiretaps in a wide-ranging federal investigators into influence peddling, bribery and racketeering that has already taken down Detroit police officers and others.

(Escanaba, MI) – An Upper Peninsula businessman has been arrested again for allegedly violating a personal protection order (PPO) involving the alleged stalking of his estranged wife who is seeking a divorce.

Steven Swanson April 7 arrest61-year-old Steven Alan Swanson of 6569 M Road in Escanaba, MI spent about five hours in the Delta County Detention Center on Saturday morning, April 7, 2018.

It was the second time he has been arrested on the charge in about a month, and each time he has been quickly freed on bond.

Swanson is the co-owner of Hilltop RV.

In fact, frustrated sources contacted U.P. Breaking News – saying his arrests never get reported.

The sources claim that Swanson’s alleged power has stopped him from being arrested in past alleged stalking cases involving women and a child.

Steven Swanson March 9 arrestSwanson was booked into the DCDC at 6:24 a.m. ET on Saturday morning, and was released on bond at 11:22 a.m.

A check by U.P. Breaking News shows that many of the Upper Peninsula newspapers, television and radio stations have lucrative contracts with Hilltop RV Super Center – with superstores located in Ishpeming and Escanaba.

Those same media outlets have not reported on Swanson’s arrests. Officials in Delta County remain tight-lipped.

Meanwhile, Swanson was also booked into the DCDC at 8:22 p.m. ET on Friday night, March 9, 2018.

Swanson was charged with violation of a personal protection order (PPO).

Swanson was released from the DCDC on his own recognizance.

Our sources said it is unusual for people arrested for violating a PPO twice in a month – would be eligible for a quick bond.

“Less than one month after the last time he violated the Court Order (PPO) to STOP STALKING – Somebody please explain why he was released from jail on bond,” a source told U.P. Breaking News.

Sources say the latest alleged victim is Swanson’s estranged wife.

“She has been trying to divorce him and he’s making her life a living hell,” a source told U.P. Breaking News.

Swanson has a long history at the business founded by his parents.
In fact, Swanson and his family’s business history is proudly displayed on the Hilltop RV website:

“Steve Swanson’s journey to an RV Superstore did not happen overnight,” the company website states. “He began as a part-time employee in 1972 while still attending High School. That’s when his parents, Ken and Theresa Swanson, launched their business as manufacturers of truck campers.”

“The Swanson family business focused away from camper manufacturing to RV sales in the mid 70’s. Within a decade, Hilltop RV became one of Michigan’s largest RV dealers.”

“We decided to get out of every endeavor that wasn’t directly related to the RV industry,” recalls Steve Swanson. “We decided to do what we do best, RV sales and service. That decision not only simplified our entire operation, but it allowed us to focus on what we really enjoyed most.”

Marquette Branch and other U.P. state prisons are tinderboxes on a powder keg due to extreme hatred by many inmates after they were fed rotten, maggot-infested food and in some cases physically abused by COs – with understaffing one of the worst problems.

***We are doing layout on Part Three now, should be up within the hour if not sooner.

(Marquette, MI) – In a house-cleaning said to be targeting her enemies and whistle-blowers, the Warden at the Marquette Branch Prison has been firing and banning COs from the property, disciplined many others, and is claimed to have ordered the alleged falsification of official state reports to keep control of the Michigan’s toughest maximum security prison.

Sources says in recent weeks 51 MBP Corrections Officers were “stop ordered” (fire and banned) or received internal punishment and write-ups

The COs say its the latest round of alleged corruption, intimidation, and malfeasance in office. Sources have said the COs, and others she doesn’t suspect, are willing to testify before a federal grand jury, if it is convened by federal prosecutors. The grand jury topics could include alleged corruption by Warden Huss and criminal malfeasance at other U.P. state prisons. Often touted as nearly escape proof, the Marquette prison faces the rocky and unforgiving shores of Lake Superior.

The spartan, aging prison is infamous with the public for housing some of Michigan’s most vicious, cold-blooded, maniacal and hated killers plus sadistic torture-loving rapists, yet it is also infamous with inmates because of the harsh winter weather, cold cells, and the thick, swampy and bug-infested perimeters that stretch on seemingly forever if you are mired in its grip. However, its also houses inmates with short records and non-violent charges like burglary and drugs – and that description matches that 30-year-old MBP inmate who inexplicably died in  segregation about a year and a half ago.

MBP MDOC 4

Here are just some of the allegations at the Marquette Branch Prison made in a communique by corrections officers and obtained by U.P. Breaking News:

Corrections officers not allowed to inspect kitchen areas where inmates and kitchen staff have sex, would-be “nightmare scenario” involving a MDOC Sargent, warden allegedly threatens her under-bosses to influence official reports including an incident during which pepper spray used by a CO to stop an inmate hanging are among numerous allegations that have surfaced in an all-out war between the COs, administration and inmates at the scandal-plagued Marquette Branch Prison.

And all that is just the tip of the iron iceberg.

U.P. Breaking News has long-reported that understaffing in U.P. state prisons is such a critical problems it adds to extreme inmate abuse, plus CO and staff turnover, and a fear by all sides that a bloody inmate takeover could breakout at any second that would make the devastating Kinross riot look like a day in the park (see Part 3 for details).

MBP officers are not “allowed to enter certain areas of the Level 5 (maximum security) kitchen” including the offices, commissary and coolers. However, while the COs are banned, the prisoners and Trinity food service employees were allowed to frequent those places. The Trinity Food Services Group was finally fired by the Governor in the past month – years after he first learned of the company’s twisted reputation, and its cruel and unusual food complete with maggots.

What mystery lurks where the mystery meat is made? The answer: Sex. Then kitchen staff naïve enough to fall for the inmate’s lies – find themselves blackmailed by prisoners – and that leads to smuggling contraband into the prison.

“Normally custody staff have access to every area inside the (prison) facility to ensure safety and security,” states the communique from current, former and retired COs. “The only way officers are allowed to gain entry” to conduct a “shakedown” of the area is with prior “shift command approval.” Afraid of the warden, MBP shift command never allows those shakedowns – where the inmates and Trinity workers did their business.

MBP shift commanders walked around terrified about possible “backlash by the warden” – and not unlike U.P. reporters – have been taught absolute obedience or suffer swift retribution due to corruption.

For some reason the Warden doesn’t care if the Trinity Food Service employees and the inmates are playing footsie. Oh yeah, maybe it is because she married an inmate rapist.

COs fear that food service employees not only have sex with inmates –  canoodling is widely-known to be rampant across the MDOC – as Trinity workers fall for the fake sweet-talk from prisoners.

Then, if one food worker gets mad at the prison or has been completely duped by a con-artist inmate – that’s when a weapon could be smuggled in. Especially now that Trinity workers are being let go – and some already have secrets that that make them putty in the greedy hands of inmates – who threaten to tell if the worker doesn’t do even more illegals things for their one-time inmate lovers.

The COs list numerous acts of alleged “intimidation and corruption” by Warden Huss just this year including “major incidents” that were “mishandled.”

The COs say one of the worst was “covering up a sergeants potentially deadly mistake.”
The COs claim that a MBP sergeant ordered a CO to put himself into a “nightmare scenario” that is feared by law enforcement officers – and banned at all prisons – no ifs, ands or buts.

In fact, its unspeakable when you think what could have happened – inmates get gun, kill the COs in prison vehicle, and go on armed rampage though Marquette County.

There is a reason that no guns are allowed behind the prison doors or in prison vans/vehicles – because studies show that the guns are often taken from officers/guards by inmates looking for their chance – and that’s the nightmare scenario.

Nevertheless, the CO and sergeant sat with inmates in a moving prison vehicle – with pile of guns and ammo near convicts.

“A sergeant gave an order for an officer to sit in the back of a (prison) transportation vehicle with an inmate while having .45 caliber rounds, a handgun, and a can of pepper spray during a transportation run back to the prison,” said the COs communique obtained by U.P. Breaking News.

“This was potentially a ‘worst case scenario” for the officers, the sergeant and the public,” the COs state.

“The inmate was in a truck with two loaded guns, and 90 (.45 cal.) rounds at his disposal at an arms reach,” the COs stated. “The other officer had .45 caliber rounds, a gun, and pepper spray while the sergeant has a taser and pepper spray.”

And if the inmates took the vehicle they would be dressed and ready to cause horror and grief in many places. The prisoner would have “three uniforms and a state vehicle to run away with.”

Then Warden Huss allegedly covered up the incident for the sergeant but makes examples out of the corrections officers, the COs claim.

“The entire state is lucky nobody was hurt or killed,” the COs stated. “The warden dusts this incident under the rug for the sergeant with no write-up, demotion, suspension, or termination.”

“But one officer (the driver) has been disciplined and the other “ is/was under investigation, the communique states.

MBP MDOC 1Ironically, those punished corrections officers were the same COs who questioned the sergeant when he made the potentially catastrophic decision before the ride back to MBP, the COs state.

Remember prisons are run in a military-like structure, so questioning the sergeant’s decision at the time took guts even if it fell on deaf ears.

“The corrections officers involved even questioned the supervisor’s decision-making at the scene,” the COs stated.

And in another incident this year, a corrections officer used pepper spray to stop an inmate from hanging himself.

The MBP corrections officer “used his chemical agent (pepper spray) to stop a prisoner from hanging himself in his cell,” the COs said. “Immediately after the incident took place – video footage of the incidence was reviewed in the MBP Control Center.”

Present during the video viewing was an assistant deputy warden, who said that the incident was handled appropriately and there was no need for a report or investigation regarding the matter.”

The COs said Warden Huss hit the roof – and disciplined a CO – while keeping her officers and administration happy by not filing a charge higher up the prison food chain.

“Days later Warden Huss went to the shift commander that was on duty when the assistant deputy warden addressed the situation,” the communique reads. “”She told him (shift commander) she wanted a full investigation and incident report.”

The COs claim that’s when Warden Huss allegedly threatened one of her Lieutenants – the shift commander – with his job if he did not participate in an alleged coverup.
“She threatened the Lieutenant, saying that he needed to leave the assistant deputy warden’s name and what they said – out of the report, – or he would be disciplined for failure to report the incident and his career would be in jeopardy,” the statement reads.

“The officer who did his job the way he was trained has since been placed on a Stop Order and isn’t allowed on the property,” the COs stated. Meanwhile sources say its just one of 50 Stop Orders she has issued.

Warden Huss “has been using her position of power to threaten staff with their jobs and income to get certain ‘Critical Incidents’ written a certain way,” the COs said.

U.P. Breaking News believes that prison officials have the duty to release the footage – so the public can decide. And we mean without the usual unnecessary delays and hassles of filing a Freedom of Information Act request. After all, they charged a CO a half million dollars ($500,000) for requesting a few emails involving the MBP top brass. MDOC and MBP hired him – but completely dislike yours truly for exposing scandal after scandal at the Marquette prison – maybe that tape would cost us $1 Million Dollars.

Just this week, a prisoner at MBP as taken to the hospital for undisclosed reasons.

In the past week, U.P. prison inmate have been taken to the hospital by ambulances for reasons that included “chest pains,” seizures and one suspected drug overdose in the eastern U.P.

This includes lawsuits outlining how guards have physically and verbally abused U.P. inmates – to the state treating its corrections officers like a dispensable targets by cutting prison staff to extremely dangerous levels, to feeding the inmates maggots that causes anger at COs and so much more.
Being a CO in Michigan is so horrible, the state doesn’t even give them a pension – a thing that gutless union bosses allowed to happen during contract bargaining.

Upper Peninsula maximum security prisons are tinder-kegs ready to explode – and the state just doesn’t seem to care. If a CO or prisoner dies, big deal.- there are many more of each.

Being a corrections officer – is often said to be the state’s worst and most dangerous jobs – while the negative physiological affect on COs has led to horrible abuse to U.P. prisons.

Its a revolving door of hate, violence and mistrust that will soon leaves inmates, corrections officers and others dead.
We also revealed that the Marquette Branch prison new warden – was the first warden in Michigan history to marry a sex offender.

(Marquette, MI) – For those of you who did not believe what inmates were saying about Upper Peninsula prison conditions – now the COs basically agree – its a dangerous mess at the Marquette Branch Maximum Security Prison – so bad that lives are in jeopardy.

Some corrections officers at the Marquette Branch Prison say that morale has never been lower and the public has never been in more danger since the appointed of the new warden.

Upper Peninsula prisons are still a corrupt, vicious mess as corrections officers at Marquette Branch Prison say the public is in danger because of an alleged out-of-control warden who is allegedly running rough shod over everyone – while allegedly protecting her minions at the top ranks

In a communique obtained by U.P. Breaking News, Warden Erica Huss (aka Erica Scholl) is accused of allegedly spending her day threatening others at the prison and putting the lives of Marquette residents, staff and inmates in extreme danger. The new warden is not trying to fix the issues at MBP, the COs say, claiming she is just making it her kingdom behind bars

“Corrections officer morale is at an all-time low,” Marquette Branch Prison COs say in a communique obtained by U.P. Breaking News. “The turn over rate for new (prison) employees is at a record high.”

“Since she has arrived at Marquette Branch Prison, the safety and security of the public, employees, and inmates has been greatly jeopardized,” the communique reads.

“Employees at every level at MBP have been treated poorly, had their jobs threatened, or have been intimidated by Warden Erica Huss” the communique states, and has apparently gotten worse since U.P. Breaking News revealed the warden (above right) was married to a Michigan sex offender (above left) until recently.

“Dealing with the unneeded stress just isn’t worth it for some,” the document states. “Experienced staff (at MBP) with 5, 10, or 15 years of experience are quitting or taking different jobs for less pay,” the message states.

“This results in short staffing (and that means) all corrections officers have to work many hours and 16 hour shifts on a regular basis,” the communique states.

MBP MDOC 4

“This results in fatigue and burn out. That on top of the normal stress of the job and stress created by Warden Huss – creates and unsafe and hostile environment for all inside the prison and threatens the outside community”

Marquette Branch Prison Corrections Officers “are treated very poorly of late.”
When something goes down at MBP, the big bosses dump all the blame on corrections officers and other staff instead of performing their boss duties with integrity becoming of the job, say the worried COs who know this could be a long hot summer in the Upper Peninsula.

“When an incident does occur, (COs) are held to a higher standard (than their bosses) and are harshly disciplined” while the top prison officials blame everyone but themselves. “Supervisors and administrative staff involved aren’t held accountable – blame is placed on the officers either unfairly or though corruption.”

“There have been many incidents of covering up inmate assaults on staff, disturbances, and violations by the prison’s privatized food system” – involving an infamous company dubiously named Trinity.

Besides getting it on with inmates, Trinity’s idea of a food operation involved making the inmates sick and angry – feeding rotten potatoes, maggots, disgusting green spam-like meat, and other horrid, unhealthy so-called food to inmates.

The first food scandal resulted in the company changing its name to Trinity – but it did not change the bosses/owners – who are getting rich on state contracts while mistreating inmates – and its very reminiscent of the old prison camps and chain gangs run by southern sheriffs in the 1900s.

The four-year food scandal recently forced the corrupt Michigan governor to fire the company run by his buddies.

“Harassment claims and grievances are always denied or not handled properly,” the communique from prison employees states. “Certain shifts have been targeted to pileup mass write-ups and suspensions.”

“FOIA requests have been made some staff members to receive information proving unfair treatment or harassment,” the condemning communique states – as it outlines the basis for severe corruption at MBP and other U.P. maximum security prisons and corrections facilities.

The MDOC punishes those who seek public records – and actually charges obscene amounts of money to correction officers, inmates and the downstate press (U.P. media is unaware of FOIA).
Those Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests “have either been denied or the employee who filed receives a bill for a ridiculous amount of money to obtain information.
In fact, one case is beyond the pale – and proves 100 percent that the MDIOC bosses are stinking corrupt from the top to the bottom.

You may recall, it was an MDOC spokesman who made a fool out of the Marquette newspaper by lying about the recent riot at the infamous Kinross Correctional Facility. U.P. Breaking News reported for hours on that fateful Saturday afternoon and night that a major riot was underway – yet the Mining Journal front page on Sunday said there was no incident. Based on the MDOC spokesman’s lies, the Mining Journal reported that a handful of inmates marched around in the Kinross Correctional facility yard mildly protesting. Wow!

What really happened was a full-blown riot with many fires, injuries, and a lot of destruction. Plus the MDOC buried the inmates involves into the bowels of several U.P. prisons – never to be heard from again.

But the truth is the Marquette paper never acknowledged the unbelievable slight – and pretended like it did not happen because they are chums with the state bosses – and all had rotten eggs on their faces.

THE STATE AND MDOC IS USING FOIA AS  WEAPON AGAINST COs – JUST THE MDOC  DOES AGAINST THE NEWS MEDIA:

A former MBP employee “requested the internet history for a few administrative staff byway of FOIA,” the statement reads. Then the state sent the former employee a bill for $500,000. Yes – a half million dollars.

A corrections officer’s salary is approx. $50,000 to $60,000 per year, the statement says.

Yet MBP officials were able to obtain the internet history of about 20 Marquette corrections officers – some of whom were put on 10-day suspensions.

And the medical crisis involving inmates continues in U.P. prisons, as today April 7, 2018 at least two U.P. inmates were taken to the hospital. An inmate at the Chippewa Correctional Facility complained of neurological problems and Kinross EMS took him to the Soo hospital. An inmate at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco was taken to the Ironwood hospital Saturday for unknown medical reasons.

In Part #2 coming very soon, we tell you about the sex with inmates, the new warden is allegedly preventing COs from stopping the problem – but remember she did marry a Michigan Sex Offender – plus some incredible corruption and blunders at MBP

(Escanaba, MI) – Delta County law enforcement officers to responded to reports of threats and a trespassing disturbance Saturday morning at the Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba, MI – as the man whose 44 dogs and a rabbit were surrendered wants the animals back – and he blames shelter employees.

Police today officially gave a trespassing warning to 66-year-old Herbert “Herb” Raymond Watson of 1311 Delta Avenue in Gladstone, MI.

“They are having a problem with a subject (Watson) calling and threatening and its starting to escalate,” a Delta County 911 Dispatcher told police officers who were en-route to the shelter to meet with manager Sue Gartland.

Plus Watson was told to stop making alleged threats against the Delta Animal Shelter and its employees/volunteers.

Knowing they would be seized anyway, Watson agreed last month to surrender 44 puppies and the rabbit to the Delta Animal Shelter.

The 44 puppies and a rabbit were removed from Watson’s Gladstone home by shelter officials and Gladstone Police on Thursday, March 22, 2018. Some sources who contacted U.P. Breaking News claimed the man was allegedly running a puppy mill in the middle of Gladstone.

It seems concern over Watson’s alleged threats have to be taken seriously in light of his sentencing in court last month.
Five days before he surrendered the animals in March 2018, Watson was sentenced to the 31 days he had just spent in the Delta County Detention Center jail after he pleaded guilty to domestic violence Watson was ordered to pay $125 in fines/costs.

Technically, the tiny chiweenie puppies were surrendered to the Delta Animal Shelter by Watson – although they would have been removed if he did not cooperate as officials had extremely serious concerns for the care of the animals.

The 44 dogs are a small breed called “chiweenies” – a cross between a Chihuahua and dachshund (aka wiener dogs).

The shelter is hoping the public will adopt the dogs – however in the meantime the outdoor dogs are now inside being loved, socialized/house trained and treated at the Delta Animal Shelter – A “No Kill” operation.

The dogs must be spayed/neutered, given both rabies vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, – all thanks to a kind veterinarian. Shelter officials feel sure that the puppies will make amazing and fantastic pets. They animals were surrendered in fairly good condition – however some were scared.

That cute fuzzy rabbit can be adopted at the shelter.

Delta County residents and the entire Upper Peninsula community have already been sending much needed donations.

The shelter needs your help as cash donations go specifically for the welfare of the dogs and cats – and rabbit.

Those who care and an afford it – are urged to donate canned dog food, paper towels, chewy doggie treats, puppy pads, brand name Frontline topical flea treatment (for small dogs); and bring on the Lysol cleaner – as much as your can.

Its against the law to run a puppy mill – or any big and filthy collection of animals – especially in the city limits of numerous U.P. communities
