(Calumet, MI) – Yet another U.P. School district is dealing with a threat to kill students – and this time in Calumet, MI.

A student has been identified as the suspect.

On Friday evening, a janitor found a threat written in a boy’s bathroom at Calumet High School.
Calumet High School is part of the Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw (CLK) Public Schools.

CLK school officials notified parents on Saturday and Monday with vague details about the incident, but have refused to share the outcome.

Parents graphic

Parents from across the U.P. have contacted us – when their local school officials keep the threats mum – and do not make a public announcement until forced.

U.P. Breaking News has been told that troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post investigated the case – and found a suspect on Monday.

Some parents – very concerned about their child’s safety – say they were treated rudely by the district.

It is not clear if the CLK student has been suspended, expelled and/or charged.

The Calumet threat is at least eighth U.P. districts have probed threats against students since the Valentine’s Day mass shooting in Florida – and in Maryland there was another school shooting today, March 20, 2018.

Meanwhile school officials in Escanaba, MI have permanently expelled a student involved in a threat.
The student – who is a minor – is facing criminal charges in probate court. Escanaba schools officials have beefed up security since the incident.

Another U.P. School Massacre Threat: Westwood High School calls in cops after threat to shoot up the school on April 11, 2018

(West Ishpeming, MI) – The Superintendent of NICE Community Schools have called law enforcement and officially warned parents late Monday night about the latest Upper Peninsula school massacre threats.

The school system sent out a message to parents about 9:30 p.m. Monday night, March 12, 2018. The message did not state the exact threat, but a copy of the threat is on the internet. Hundreds of school shooting threats have been reported nationwide – and countless school shootings have actually occurred with the most recent in Florida.

The school system is trying to get out in front of internet rumors and a photo of the threat that apparently appear in the boys and girls bathrooms at Westwood High School.

NICE Superintendent Bryan DeAugustine sent a message to parents stating the police are “guiding” in the criminal investigation into “troubling graffiti” and “we do not believe this graffiti is credible.”

“We are confident our school and our lids are safe,” Superintendent DeAugustine said, adding his own two children attend NICE schools.

“We believe that it may have been written by someone else during an event, not by one of our students,” the message states.

The photo of the graffiti has been sent around the internet with reaction from parents and students ranging from extreme concern, a little natural fear, disgust and hope that police catch a suspect.

“Joke or not, this is absolutely disgusting and scary,” one district resident stated adding – “Westwood failed to inform any parents about this” until last night.

NICE officials apparently heard the call of many parents saying that leaving an threwat incident like this to rumor is not professional -and is reminiscent about what recently happened in the Soo – where officials also tried to keep a lid on the information.

“Parents should be informed and stuff like this shouldn’t be thrown aside. Just because we live in a small town, and have a small school district doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take precaution and figure this out, you never know what could happen.”

The district has not said which law enforcement agency is investigating the threats.
