(Green Bay, WI) – A prolific northern Wisconsin hunting and fishing guide has admitted illegally harvesting thousands of ducks – and today entered into a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

In fact, the criminal information and plea agreement were filed at virtually the same time – in the case of Captain Jeff Van Remortel.

Van Remortel will be sentenced on Feb. 9, 2018. He faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

He was once a well-know guide making lots of money off wildlife in northern Wisconsin. Now he nothing but a confessed super poacher with no regard for federal wildlife laws.

He admits violating The Lacey Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Some of the crime dates of Captain Jeff Van Remortel date back to a 2012 undercover investigation when he took U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service undercover agents on an illegal duck hunt.

In the plea agreement, Van Remortel admits illegally harvesting thousands of ducks.

Van Remortel owned and operated Wisconsin Duck Hunts Guide Service (WDH) in Minoqua, Wisconsin. He offered guided duck hunting trips on Lake Michigan.

While not charged with fishing related crimes, Van Remortel brags on his website about home many Musky and other fish he catches every year during guided trips.
