(Marquette, MI) – Two snowmobilers were rushed to the trauma center in Marquette, MI late today after separate crashes in Baraga and Keweenaw counties – and one sledder was in critical condition.

The worst crash was reported tonight in Keweenaw County.

An out-of-state woman was critically injured when she lost control of her sled in a curve and crashed into trees. The snowmobile received relatively light damage, however the sledder received multiple trauma-related injuries.

The crash happened on snowmobile Trail Number 134 near Madan Location.

The 28-year-old female victim was rushed to Aspirus-Keweenaw Hospital, and transferred a short while ago to U.P. Health System-Marquette suffering from multiple critical trauma-related injuries – and troubling vitals.

Those officials assisting on the scene included the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s department, Ahmeek Search and Rescue and Peninsula Auto Repair Towing and Recovery.

The crash is a tragic example of how a sledder can receive horrible injuries – and the snowmobile itself is barely scratched. female victim has “major trauma, multiple injuries.”

Meanwhile in Baraga County:

A rescue lasting almost two hours occurred in Baraga County this afternoon to get an injured snowmobiler off the trail.

The snowmobile crash was dispatched at 2:12 p.m. this afternoon, Wed., Jan. 17, 2018. The Bay Ambulance Service paramedics transported the victim to the Baraga hospital – and some EMS officials reportedly used snowmobiles to get on the trail.

The crash was reported on snowmobile Trail Number 15 near 14488 Arnheim Road near Pelkie, MI in Baraga Township.

While transporting the victim to U.P. Health System-Marquette, paramedics told doctors via radio that the victim suffered a shoulder fracture and a dislocated right ankle. All painful but not life-threatening injuries.

A WARNING TO ALL SNOWMOBILERS:

Despite recent heavy snow, U.P. trail conditions change rapidly – most wrecks involve curves, hitting trees, unfamiliarity with what’s coming up on the trail – and high speeds.
Slow down – and Live. Or face death or a life-changing painful injury

There have been five snowmobile fatalities in the past month across the Upper Peninsula. The latest victim – a 51-year-old Saginaw, MI man, was killed yesterday Tues., Jan. 16, 2018 in Chippewa County when he lost control in a curve and hit a tree in the eastern U.P. just south of famed White Fish Point.

Five killed in snowmobile accidents in a month

Chippewa County goes after drug companies and national pharmacy chains that make addictive opioid drugs that have killed Upper Peninsula residents – joins other Michigan and Wisconsin governments

(Chippewa County/Marquette, MI) – In federal civil filing, Chippewa County explains why it joined the many cities and counties across Michigan and Wisconsin who have joined national lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies.

Allegations made against defendants: (1) Public Nuisance; (2) Negligence Per Se; (3) Negligence; And (4) Violations Of The Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organization Act (RICO Act).

Chippewa County joins lawsuit against drug companies, pharmacies (2)

In Michigan, Chippewa County joins numerous other cities and counties suing the pharmaceutical companies that have cost thousands of lives including well over 100 deaths in the U.P. in recent years.
In Wisconsin, 20 counties are suing pharmaceutical companies over the massive and crooked marketing of prescription opioid painkillers that has caused a drug epidemic across the United States.

“According to the United States Census Bureau, as of 2010 the County of Chippewa had a population of 38,520. It was also estimated that, in 2016, 37,724 persons live in the County of Chippewa.,” the suit states.

The devilish painkillers at issue include OxyContin, MS Contin, Dilaudid/Dilaudid HP, Butrans, Hysingla ER, and Targiniq ER Percocet, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydromorphone, and hydrocodone, opioids Nucynta and Nucynta ER; prescription opioids Actiq and Fentora; prescription opioids Kadian and Norco, a generic version of Kadian, and generic versions of Duragesic and Opana – and many more that makes the companies and pharmacies hundreds of billions of dollars annually while cause tens of thousands of deaths each year across the USA.

“Plaintiff, County of Chippewa, has been uniquely and disproportionately impacted by the scourge of opioid addiction,” Chippewa County officials declared in the lawsuit.

Chippewa County is the second largest county in the State of Michigan.

Chippewa County “has been highly affected by the tidal wave of opioids addiction that has swept through the nation,” the suit states. “The County is being forced to expend county resources combating the opioid epidemic and its cascading effects.

“As a direct result of Defendants’ corporate malfeasance, the County’s medical professionals and first responders must now prioritize combating drug overdoses, including opioid overdoses,” the suit declares. Chippewa County “law-enforcement officers are engaged in a pitched battle against the heroin trade, and against criminal enterprises illegally trading in prescription opioids. The County’s medical professionals must now spend their time and resources combating the multifaceted harms that drug addiction imposes on families, children, and infants.”

The national pharmacies targeted are CVS Health Corporation (“CVS”), Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (“Walgreens”)m Rite Aid Corporation (“Rite Aid”) and Costco Wholesale Corporation (“Costco”).

“The opioid epidemic has contributed to the destabilization of communities and neighborhoods in Chippewa County,” the suit states. Chippewa County has “been deprived” of “tax revenue and increased the costs of delivering county services.”

Chippewa County files the “civil action to eliminate or, at a minimum, reduce the imminent threat to public health and safety in Chippewa County caused by the opioid epidemic, to abate the nuisance caused thereby, and to recoup municipal monies spent to address the harm that resulted from:
(1) the false, deceptive and unfair marketing of prescription opioids by Defendants, and from
(2) Defendants’ failure to stop plainly suspicious orders of opioids, as defined below. The economic damages suffered by Plaintiff were caused by the use of opioid products that were foreseeable to Defendants and were sustained through Defendants’ patterns of activity directly resulting from their reckless, intentional and unlawful acts and omissions.

(Marquette, MI) – A man, who was one of four arrested on state meth charges almost two weeks ago in Gogebic County, was appointed the federal version of a court-appointed defense attorney on Tuesday.

Federal drug agents were among the many law enforcement agencies on the scene for the Gogebic County meth raid that was the announced on Friday. January 20, 2017 by the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team – better known as “GIANT.” Numerous meth and other drug and weapons charges against an unknown number of people are expected as federal prosecutors in Marquette bring witnesses before a federal grand jury.

gogebic-giant-bust-press-release-5-corey-tutorOn Tuesday, 34-year-old Corey Allan Tutor, who has ties to Gogebic County and Ashland, WI, was given an attorney at no cost by U.S. Magistrate Timothy P. Greeley. Appointed to represent Tutor was an unnamed member of the U.S. Public Defender Office in Marquette, MI. The office is headed in Marquette by Asst. U.S. Public Defender Elizabeth LaCosse – who once was a prosecutor in the western U.P.

Convicted felon 33-year-old Jeremy James Whitebird – whose home allegedly had $50,000 in meth and other drugs when searched by GIANT agents – is one of the main targets of the local, state and federal drug probe. He faces drug charges and two counts of possession of a gun by a convicted felon – that brings serious time in the federal system.

Officials said that Whitebird has an extensive criminal history, however U.p. Breaking News has been unable to find out much about him through online and other sources.

Current state charges against Whitebird include possession with intent to deliver methamphetamines, heroin, cocaine and marijuana.

The raid involving state and federal drug agents was conducted by the GIANT drug team, the Gogebic Iron SWAT Team, Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Beacon Ambulance Service stood by the scene just in case.

Police confiscated a large amount of meth, coke, heroin, and pot plus several firearms and ammunition, according to a GIANT press release.

Two others – plus Tutor – were present during the raid at the Whitebird residence. The trio are charged with possession of methamphetamines and a loitering charge for allegedly hanging around a drug house. They are 21-year-old Rebecca Jade Gibbons, 30-year-old Carlos Jordan, 30, and 34-year-old Corey Allan Tutor.

Meanwhile, another Gogebic County resident was appointed a U.S. Federal Public Defender on Tuesday – Lisa Celeskey of Ironwood, MI. The reason Celeskey needs a defense attorney for federal probe is not known. The Federal Public Defender Office recommended that attorney Sarah Emily Henderson be appointed to represent Celeskey

Snowmobile wrecks involving alcohol is New Year’s warning to everyone – You must prevent life-shattering deaths and injuries – and all just to have fun: Take the Keys, Designated Driver, Call a Cab – anything is better than funeral home

new-years-2017

(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – A string of late December 2016 fatal and serious snowmobile accidents across the region continued on New Years Eve day shattering lives.

This should be a warning this New Year’s Eve night before you drive drunk – or see someone operating cars/snowmobiles etc. Stop them. Call cab or something.

There were several terrible snowmobile wrecks today in Iron County, WI and officials say there was apparently at least one fatal accident out “of numerous bad snowmobile accidents across the county.”

A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured in one of the accidents who was a passenger a snowmobile was taken to the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital. She was expected to be transferred to Marquette or another hospital.

There were reports of two more injuries in that accident – the drivers of two sleds – however no information is being released on them. The child was reportedly a passenger on one of her parents snowmobile that got struck violently by another snowmobile.

An officials with the Iron County, WI Sheriff’s Department declined to release any more information. However, he said that the accident involving the girl “was not the fatal accident.”

“No information is being released,” he said. He declined to take a phone number.

A 63-year-old East Moline, IL man became the state’s first fatality of this year’s snowmobile season after his snowmobile hit a tree in Vilas County – that borders the U.P., according to the Vilas County Coroner, the Wisconsin DNR and the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.

A 14-year-old girl from Fox Lake, IL was seriously injured Thursday when she lost control of her machine and left the trail near Sidnaw, MI. She was ejected sustaining numerous injuries.
U.P. Breaking News heard an ambulance bringing a 13-year-old girl to Marquette General Hospital with serious injuries – and it appears to be the Sidnaw accident – tho officials are not talking.

Meanwhile, no arrests yet but we understand alcohol is the suspected possible cause of a snowmobile wreck that sent a machine way down a big embankment near the Chippewa County Airport that apparently happened late Thursday or early Friday. The suspect was reportedly not arrested because there is no court until Tuesday.

This is likely the snowmobile – that we originally thought was connected to the rescue of an elderly man who spend seven hours freezing overnight in thew outback of Chippewa County. Chippewa County officials have not released info – its unclear because of no comment.

Then there are the events that are bound to happen every year when people enjoying skiing at Marquette Mountain – that has a great ski patrol and emergency rescue system. Very good.

Meanwhile two teen girls received broken bones in skiing/snowboarding accidents in Marquette – both taken to hospital but in good shape considering one went down a 25 foot snow embankment/cliff and the other broke her leg.

As U.P. Winter House/Structure fires continue out of control – family of latest fire victim says no autopsy was ordered on the Doug Lintz – case closed – and that’s not good: And this as even more U.P. house/structure fires go unexplained tonight

NO AUTOPSY ORDERED IN FATAL FIRE!

OFFICIALS CAN SPIN THESE DEATHS – BUT CAN NOT DENY THEM

victim-loved-family-2

Why are so many U.P. deaths of all kinds not being thoroughly probed by MSP, fire officials and the fire marshal?

Family man Doug Lintz made Christmas dinner for loved ones just hours before his death

By Greg Peterson
U.P. Breaking News

(Iron River, MI) – The family of the latest Upper Peninsula elderly resident to die in a daylight fire is questioning why no autopsy was performed – and the victim is being remembered tonight as a caring family man who spent his final hours with those he loved – and was known for being an expert outdoorsman and taxidermist.

doug-lintz-1He even cooked Christmas dinner for loved one’s only hours before his death. This despite suffering from cancer.

60-year-old Douglas “Doug” Michael Lintz died on Monday afternoon in a fire that quickly swept through his home at 1119 N. River Avenue in Iron River, MI.

U.P. fire officials have not been owning up to all the blazes in a recent spate of strange fires – more than a dozen in three weeks – including one today in Skandia and another fire today in Iron River. We have no details about either blaze.

fire-victim-and-his-buck-back-in-the-day

Lintz’s longtime female friend Kristine “Kris” McNamara was not at his home when the fire broke out – but reportedly was there earlier in the day. She has her own residence.

Lintz was a self-employed taxidermist and talented at reloading of bullets and shotgun shells.

Lintz made Christmas dinner for family friend Alaina Seymour and her kids.

That family friend and neighbor, who has known the victim since she was 12 years old, could only watch in grief and horror as Mr. Lintz’s home burned in a fire of unknown origin.

doug-lintz-2doug-lintz-3“He started hunting and fishing at about 12 or 13,” his brother said tonight. “At 13 years old, he was professionally employed by Hyde and Kidd of Utica, MI” – a business known as a hunting and fishing taxidermy shop. The store also included everything that Lintz loved – guns, ammo, bows, plus fishing gear and and related stuff.

Apparently the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and local fire officials did not want an autopsy performed.

“The undertaker picked him up at the house and was going to the funeral home,”his brother said. “I was dumbfounded! No autopsy!”

The fire chief told family “they probably will never know the cause due to water damage and freezing,” Lintz said about his brother’s tragedy.

Lintz’s father’s side of the family has Upper Peninsula roots.

“Doug’s wish was to be cremated without funeral or fuss,” according to his brother Lyn Lintz. “He will be going to Sidnaw after cremation.”

It is one of over a dozen U.P. house fires in recent weeks documented by U.P. Breaking News – but fire officials in several jurisdictions are refusing comment. The death of Mr. Lintz was preceded by two elderly residents who died recently in a daylight fire at their home in Fulton,. MI in the Copper Country in Keweenaw County.

U.P. Breaking News Reveals the Shocker Stories of 2016: As the “news readers” tell you in upcoming days about what happened in 2016 – U.P. Breaking News tells you the real “news” that happened in 2016 and what is could mean in 2017 – Plus some stories we will be breaking in upcoming days and weeks

U.P. Breaking News would like police input on these serious issues that were faced in 2016 and must be faced in 2017

Upper Peninsula Logo

We would like to hear (on or off the record) from even more of the fair-minded modern cops who understand the potential and obvious ramifications of these serious issues that if not addressed properly – could lead to officer’s deaths in 2017

And the headline we’d like to see before 2016 ends or in 2017 with our shameful governor Snidley Whiplash in a perp walk:

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder Indicted on Federal Racketeering Charges – RICO indictment returned by grand jury against worst governor in state history

(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – As the obligatory “year-ender” stories will soon be in the U.P. media – as the U.P. “news readers” (TV, radio and newspaper) recall what they can about 2016.

U.P. Breaking News doesn’t expect the “news readers” to tell you what really happened (out of their press release world) – so we will.

Soon you will seen the U.P. media reminiscing about 2016 – in the same way they have since TV first came to northern Michigan. The papers sell their special year-end sections and rehash their original hash – but nothing really new.

In fact- even the TV reports look the same each year – just different names and places but often same annual events and perspective.

As the year 2016 ends, is the U.P. ready to face its issues?

Or will we collectively wait til the issues become too big and more people die?

Shall we punt into a Yooper end-zone – or take the first steps: Admit the problem and try to offer solutions.

First an fyi:

  • #1  – U.P. Breaking News is starting a series of stories on unsolved murders in the Upper Peninsula – plus suspicious deaths that seem to fall through the cracks even worse than the unsolved murders. If you know someone whose murder has not been solved – or there are highly-questionable circumstances – please give us a call. 906-273-2433
  • #2 –  If you have time – please join me this Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. in Marquette County Circuit Court.   U.P. Breaking News is under a judge’s demand that we appear in a Marquette courtroom. Against our will, we are being forced to go to that hearing Tuesday where a judge is trying to “restrain” U.P. Breaking News.
  • #3  – U.P. Breaking News is starting a series of stories revealing the truth behind Marquette County’s so-called torture case. The public has been misled by the press and officials to think it is comparable to the horrendous Cleveland torture and sexual assault case. Not even close – there are absolutely no similarities. Even Michigan’s high courts agree the case has big issues.  It’s one of those rare cases where the suspect may actually be innocent (according to some two dozen women). One so-called victim has died of a drug overdose. U.P. Breaking News feels very sorry for the only surviving “victim” Angel – who has actually been victimized and used by everyone involved. We have even heard there might be drug-addicted newborn baby thrown into the mix involving this case. U.P. Breaking News is going to name names – and show all faces.

Now – as U.P. news organizations prepare to tell you about what happened in 2016 – they will recall all the good news (nothing wrong with that) and the criminal cases in state courts. The U.P. news readers serve a niche for those Yoopers who like to dream we are in the 1950s.

But today’s modern Yooper demands more of their media. That’s why U.P. Breaking News devotes so much time, energy and money – instead of retiring on the Chocolay River – as a public service and to open your eyes.

If we break the ice, maybe one day there will be a media outlet in the U.P. that asks questions involving critical thinking – not just fluff or same ole stuff.

Believe it or not – the following is a description of the Upper Peninsula – a place that we think is still “someplace special” but now with an asterisk.

The following happened in final half of 2016:

  • Unsolved murders grow across northern Michigan including questionable deaths written off by media – and people who carer about victims claim little police effort is put into the deaths
  • Very strange deaths being quickly ruled suicide. Questionable “suicides” that are decided virtually overnight – in some cases, not even one day of investigation is given for each ten years of a person’s life – even in the oddest of cases without suicide note
  • U.P. police killing two retired men in their own homes during “well-being” checks – ruled OK bu local cops, probing local cops. And MSP says life goes on except for those shot. There was a third person shot by U.P. police that is also mental health related but that person is recovering.
  • Inmates strangely dropping dead in U.P. prisons in alleged unprecedented accidents. Plus inmates medical scandal leading to deaths and injuries – or many prisoners majorly ill from contaminated or under-cooked meals.
  • Few cops on the road; deadly under-staffing. Police and Corrections Officers are understaffed beyond bone that WILL lead to the death of an U.P. police officer – its only a matter of time before the rubber band breaks. Plus the few cops on road asked to be on-the-scene psychiatrists putting their lives in danger.
  • Skyrocketing suicide rate – and Pathways plus other community health organizations understaffed – and accused of not doing good job with their hands tied.
  • The Raging Children of the U.P. – Even this week U.P. Breaking News heard reports of teachers being attacked by students – from 7 years old – to their early teens. Kids attacking parents, grandparents and the other night attacking people attending a school function at a U.P. school named “Lincoln”
  • U.P. Dumpster Diving, Homelessness, Crushing U.P. Poverty at all time high – this winter expect the U.P,. homeless to freeze to death especially those not welcome at the overwrought shelters like those homeless with substance issues who are sent to fend with the wolves.
  • U.P. “News Media” in 2016 become “Fake News” at your doorstep – by going from simply not reporting stuff – to being duped or bought. For example, U.P. Breaking News was the only media not fooled by MDOC lies about the Kinross Riot. Newspapers and TV claimed that a riot was not happening at Kinross. U.P. Sunday papers had rotten egg omelets on their face with that one – TV was alseep.  Now the”news regurgitators” at the Hoton paper claim there are only 5 suspended black football players – rather than seven. Fake news in print delivered to your door! I would mention TV in all this but they are clueless about both.

Here is is more info on above:

First my message to the “reporters” who are just “news readers” or regurgitators – but want things to change:

To those reporters in the U.P. who are working under the bonds of their bosses – do not worry – newsrooms in other parts of the U.S. actually take their jobs seriously. U.P. newsrooms are very different from others. In some other newsrooms, you do not get discouraged when you come up with new ideas or hard news.

U.P. Breaking News is almost the only news media with the courage to tell you about serious (non-fluff) issues – the majority of other U.P. media hides like puppies.

I remember when paramedics and EMTs objected to be called simply “ambulance drivers.” That’s my comparison for the feckless members of the U.P. media – the media who are merely “news readers” or “news regurgitators” aka ambulance drivers. The difference is whether you read a press release with only the facts provided – or whether you look into the facts and ask questions.

Do you spend a few moments doing critical thinking before you go to a press conference? The weak “news regurgitators” are very obvious if you listen to their stories. Some of the U.P. young and older media really want to be journalists not press release puppets – but are held back by bosses with no guts.

But for example – the rest of U.P. media still has not gotten the Finlandia racism scandal correct.
It is “The Finlandia Seven” – not “The Finlandia Five” (Folks, send your old calculators to the editors at the Houghton paper to help them with math). But, at least the Hoton newspaper did a story with the main stuff coming from us, I do not even want to characterize how the other media handled it.

My message to police who really care (bored or puzzled reporters can stop reading now):

Kinross inmates still go to the hospital on a weekly basis but a federal court lawsuit filed this week may help explain some of the medical issues at Kinross and other U.P. prisons.

U.P. Breaking News is not specifically blaming the cops. The fair-minded cops we talk to regularly – understand we are fighting for their right to have more cops in the wake of an out-of-control system in the U.P. The cops in Yooperland are expected to spend most of their time handling suicidal/mental health situations – all three people that police shot in the U.P. in the final months of 2016 had mental health and/or depression issues.

Plus cops are pressured to close cases – and we are beginning to wonder about why some strange rulings have been made – like a woman whose death was ruled a suicide in less than three days even though she was found with a bungee cord around her neck laying on a famous Upper Peninsula beach – and no suicide note.

U.P. Breaking News stated in a editorial – that the integrity of MSP detectives is now on the line – and even the public is losing faith. I am not so cynical to believe these cops are bad – but it appears problems include low-staffing, pressure to move on, etc. There must be other reasons contribute to the U.P. being the place where people can apparently get away with murder – unless the case is gift wrapped for police.

Plus some days no cops are put on the road by U.P. county sheriff’s departments – and worse. We’d reveal more but it would be a treasure map for crooks (not that they do not already know this). Plus I’d hate to think our huge unsolved murder stats will encourage potential murderers into thinking getting away with the heinous crime is likely in the U.P.

If you are a fair-minded cop who understands and really cares about the future of the U.P. – and why we seem to be upending on many fronts. Rather than being reactionary – police officers please read this – even offer an opinion because we really want to know why this is happening. You do not have to give your name.

Am I the only one who thinks this is not sustainable?

We really want to know why police think this is happening. If this is not addressed – like a cancer – the public will begin the question the credibility of even U.P. law enforcement – where we love and believe in our police.

Please. If you are a professional law enforcement officer who recognizes the problems – and you do not easily get mad or your butt on your shoulders – then please tell us the possible solutions and how you think they can be achieved.
Or is all hunky dory from U.P. cops point of view?

Don’t worry we will hide your identity like our dozens and dozens of other sources – for whom we are very thankful. Some just want to blame media – we can take it. But that doesn’t solve anything.

*** Remember we NEED input from police and corrections officers who care instead of the usual sophomoric blaming of us. Remember, if you won’t help with information do not complain if we do not report it.
