Today’s Eviction Raid in Escanaba, MI: U.P. homeless and poverty problem continues spilling over into the streets; Bands of roaming homeless, squatters kicked out of uninhabitable homes, dozens of evictions in U.P. cities; and a homeless man passed out on a toilet in a Marquette laundromat

URGENT U.P. Breaking News Bulletin – 4-27-18 – 3:39 p.m. ET

A raid on an “uninhabitable home” in Escanaba aimed a female tenant – plus a reported “homeless crew” causing police concern in Marquette – and just a few of many recent incidents involving the U.P. homeless

(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – In Escanaba this afternoon court officials, a building inspector, police and others forcefully evicted a female squatting in a dilapidated house, Marquette police today handled a complaint about a “homeless crew,” plus a homeless man passed out on a toilet in a Marquette laundromat bathroom, a needle scare at same place earlier in day, and dozens of U.P. evictions even moments ago – and this is just in the past week.

Its soon another spring Friday Night in the U.P. If recent events are a judge – it could be a long night for U.P. cops and emergency officials.

In Delta County District Court today, the Escanaba Building Inspectors Office got court backing to evict a tenant from a home on N. 14th Street because the home is in ill-repair (a problem facing every U.P. city that has mining-era housing still in use by the poor – in fact all U.P. fatal fires are in old homes).

It seemed more like a raid than a normal eviction in Escanaba today.

The address they hit just after 1 p.m. was at 224 N. 14th Street in Escanaba (lower apartment).
Among those called to the scene were the Escanaba Police, the building inspector, the landlord – with officials armed with a handy court order.

“The tenant is a Amanda Brown,” the dispatcher said to the officer on the scene. “And Blake, and the landlord are supposed to meet there as well.”
Are police needed on the scene for standby or “in case there is trouble?,” the officer asked the dispatcher.

“Not sure, they did state its a building deemed uninhabitable by the building inspector – I think it was just a standby,” the dispatcher answered.
That’s when another official got on the radio and said he too was en-route.
The dispatcher said “Blake” but may have meant City Hall’s Blaine DeGrave, the Escanaba “Code Enforcement Official.”

Over the past week U.P. Breaking News has heard a large increase in evictions – plus police calls related to evicting people from abandoned or dilapidated city homes in Marquette County. In fact, as we were posting this story – at 3:15 p.m. ET today (Friday) – another evection was ordered in Ishpeming, MI at 230 N. Elm Street.

Last night a “homeless crew” were allegedly pounding on at least one door in the city of Marquette – resulting in a second 911 call to police on Friday afternoon. With domestic violence out of control, cops seem actually relieved to handle the more mundane, yet very important, mental issues. For example, in Houghton County today a scared woman called 911 to report someone spread dust around her house. She has called many time for many reasons. But moments later they were called to a doctor’s office for a disruptive patient.

Friday morning, Marquette Police and firefighters were called to a homeless man found passed out on a toilet of a Third Street laundromat. Earlier, county deputies visited the same laundromat because of a man reported to have a bunch of needles.

U.P. will soon not be able to sweep the problems from public view – as more and more incidents happen and social problems fester. Highly-addictive drugs like meth and heroin are flooding U.P. streets and there is a soaring problem in the U.P involving suicide, domestic violence and mental issues issues. The numbers are growing on all fronts in an exponential form – as only band-aids are put on the northern Michigan problems that once only plagued the gloomiest cities in the Lower Peninsula.

We have only two things to say to those who think we are exaggerating, or think its not a big deal, or believe we should punt it down the field like we have done as a country with North Korea. Do you think the problem just go away? Plus remember big Michigan cities are better equipped to handle the social problems – tho few are shining examples – because if they did not do something there would be many people laying dead in the street.

If history is any example, little will be done until people die. Just like the issues caused by the criminal underfunding and short-staffing at U.P. prisons. Many think it will take some COs murdered to capture Lansing’s attention. Until then prisoners will continue to be beaten, abused, and fed garbage. While experienced COs will continue to quit in droves for their own health and because it is a no-win job with no state pension.

Over the past decade, Lansing’s reaction to the far north issues by cutting funding to U.P. social programs and greedily raping the U.P. environment by destroying the deer herd and the pitiful over-site of mining-related pollution. Local U.P. governments, state officials are unable to stop the growing problems – as even well-meaning groups are unable to do more than put a bandage on the gushing problems of wounds – created by homelessness, poverty and mental health issues.

With little increase in tax revenues, local governments have offset their budget deficits by increased fees on everything – and we mean everything. Today all government-related issues in the U.P. now have an onerous fee attached.
U.P. Breaking News has documented how U.P. counties profiteer off government documents and public records – which SHOULD be no more than the cost of the paper to print document. Governments had their taxing hands tied since the Headlee Amendment. Tax revenues have dwindled since the Headlee Amendment that protects property owners from rising taxes.

As poverty and oppressive government fees continue to keep the low-income and homeless down across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, officials are not able to stop the issue from continuing to spill out into the streets causing pain, suffering and lots of your tax dollars.

Michigan’s governor has made it clear he distains the problems of the poor – and loves to squeeze every penny out of the U.P. despite the bigger cost. He has also armed landlords – many are slum lords who once watched a midnight scam involving property-buying commercials that let all think they would become overnight millionaires.

NMU student dies in dorm – classmates in shock – as it is only the latest of numerous suicides in Marquette County and the Upper Peninsula in recent weeks

URGENT URGENT – U.P. Breaking News Bulletin – 3-18-18 – 9:15 p.m. ET –

Another young life is lost in Marquette County

Our U.P. lawmakers personally know the pain of suicide – yet have done nothing to restore mental health funding

The U.P. is in desperate need of more mental health funding, and we as a population must remove the stigma from depression so that people can seek help without fear of judgment and scorn

(Marquette, MI) – A Northern Michigan University student died in a dorm on campus Sunday, the latest victim in a rash of young suicides in the Marquette, MI area this year.

Emergency officials were called to Spooner Hall on Campus late Sunday evening because a student hung himself. CPR was performed, however was not successful.

The student is believed to have been 21-years-old. U.P. Breaking News has decided to withhold the exact dorm number and floor.

Among those responding were the NMU Department of Public Safety, Marquette Police department, Marquette Fire department, and paramedics from U.P. Health System-Marquette.

NMU officials are expected to have grief counselors, and other services available to students affected by this tragedy.

The name of the student has not been released by officials. The investigation continues.

There were two alcohol overdoses reported at U.P. universities on Sunday including one at NMU following the suicide.
At East McNair Hall at Michigan Tech University, a 21-year-old female was taken to the hospital early today after what were reported to be “stroke-like” symptoms. Details of those three incidents are not known – but all involve college students.

For 35 years, this reporter was like others in the U.P. – and did not report suicides.

However, in recent years we have changed our opinion because ignoring the problem has not helped bring back mental health funding to the U.P. – that was slashed by current and former governors.

With poverty, drugs, alcohol and social pressures getting greater – the problem keeps growing.

The U.P. suicide rate has been skyrocketing in the past few years – as thee have been at least two NMU students have taken their lives this winter – and another young man in his 20s was recently found dead behind a Marquette school.
In the past month there have been at least four gun suicides in the U.P.

We ask our lawmakers – who personally know the grief of suicide of one of their own – when is enough, enough?

Marquette Hotel Stabbing/Cutting; U.P. Hangings: U.P. Mental Health Cuts Spilling Into Public – Treat ’em and Street ’em with Pills

Saturday night stabbing/cutting reported at Ramada Inn in Marquette, MI; U.P. suicides and suicide attempts continue this morning

For decades this reporter and U.P. Breaking News did not believe in publicizing suicides. A total blackout. However, that old-fashioned approach by the media is not working – and actually helps hide the true depth of the problem.

(Marquette, MI) – Marquette police, firefighters and paramedics were called late Saturday night to a reported self-inflicted female stabbing victim and a second male victim with cuts at the Ramada Inn located at 412 W. Washington Street in Marquette, MI.

However, little is known officially about the incident. Meanwhile, for at least the second time in a few days – a hanging was reported early today to police in the U.P. and this one involving a Delta County boy.

“A 23-year-old female stabbed herself in the stomach,” a dispatcher told police and emergency personnel responding to the scene.

The victim allegedly stabbed herself “below the ribs on the right side,” the 911 dispatcher told emergency responders. “The female (victim) is disorderly in the (hotel) room … She doesn’t have the knife in her hands.”

Paramedics were told about a second victim : “There is a male with a laceration on his arm.” Police were on the scene for over an hour and a half – and then went to the U.P. Health System – Marquette hospital early today to continue their investigation. No word on the names or conditions of those involved. However, the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Firefighters and paramedics were briefly staged in the lobby while police secured the scene. Te dispatcher said 911 “were waiting word” from police on allowing emergency crews to enter the room to ensure “good status before you go in.” The room was quickly secured by police.

There is also no word on whether the case will end up with any criminal charges.

If the stabbing at the Ramada Inn was self-inflicted – it would become the second stabbing this winter to have associated mental health issues. A homeless man was arrested in Marquette in Nov. 2016 for a stabbing behind the Marquette warming center.

https://upbreakingnews.com/2016/11/17/marquettescissorsstabbing

Marquette Police, Marquette firefighters and paramedics from U.P. Health System – Marquette were all called room 117 at the Ramada Inn just 11 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 28, 2017.

Meanwhile in Escanaba, MI early today, Sun., Jan. 29, 2017 word of a hanging involving a youth whose “mother cut him down” after discovering the young male in the basement. His age and condition is not known. The ictim was rushed to St. Francis Hospital.
U.P. Breaking News is withholding the address of this tragedy – as the family is suffering unimaginable pain –  as we did two days ago in the Copper Country. This comes about 48 hours after a reported hanging of a adult man in a Houghton County Barn.

This week alone, there were numerous incidents or raging children – and of defiant school children – in Escanaba and across the U.P. Folks this is real stuff. It is happening. Hopefully one day the U.P. media will do more to expose these and other issues.

An ongoing one-year investigation by U.P. Breaking News investigation into the mental health crisis in the U.P. has turned up many alarming facts – in addition to the shocking rise in suicides and attempted suicides – and a meth and prescription drug epidemic.

For example, ironically some the addiction problem is caused by the ‘treat ’em and street ’em” state and federal pill policies. Numerous military veterans have told U.P. Breaking News that the V.A. Hospital in Iron Mountain hands out pills because its the cheapest way to treat and street vets.

Meanwhile even drugs prescribed to help treat U.P. drug abusers in their teens to their 60s have found there way back onto the street to be abused – like the Box Heads of thew U.P. – all addicted to Suboxone – originally designed to treat opiate abuse. The crisis is so bad even those in mental health can not agree on how to reign in the problems and start fixing the issues. Some are long-timers just hoping to get a retirement and pension.

Bloody Budget Cuts – The Budget Axing of Poor People With Real Needs

U.P. Breaking News has traced state budget cuts and mismanagement of the Snyder Administration to deaths and other issues stretching from the corrections and understaffed prisons, to mental health to an overload in the court system. There state budget cuts have left experts with few tools other than medication on both the local and federal levels.

The cuts have also led to an environmental crisis in the U.P. and downstate. One example – other than the Flint water crisis – is the destruction and decimation of the deer population. the graft involving the acid mines were so bad, one of the original companies fled town, hoping the feds were not watching.

The Three Faces of Josh: Guarded 24/7, man who was shot by Michigan State Police goes from one foot in grave to walking the 7th floor at a Marquette hospital- Shot three times after 100 MPH chase on snowy U.P. roads – and U.P. Breaking News explains the chainsaws

Josh Stead lost after allegedly bringing a chainsaw to a gunfight – but was his real intention “suicide by cop”

Those who know him claim Josh would never hurt anyone intentionally and especially not with a chainsaw – a tool he used to create furniture

(Bellaire, Michigan) – Several faces are emerging of the scion of a prominent Bellaire, Michigan family – who allegedly brought a chainsaw to a gunfight with Michigan State Police after a 100 MPH chase on slippery snow-covered Upper Peninsula roads.

After being shot at least three times by a MSP trooper, 35-year-old Joshua Kenneth Stead of Bellaire almost died after being airlifted to a Marquette hospital. Steed was shot twice in the stomach and once in the arm – that is broken. Among Steed’s organs that were damaged are his spleen, gall bladder and liver. The gut shots have caused bile related issues.

It is believed that four to five shots were fired – and at least three hit Stead – who allegedly dropped a running chainsaw and collapsed into the middle of M-28 in western Chippewa County. There are dash camera videos of the incidents – but its unclear if the officers had body cameras. Sources say officers guarding Josh have allegedly told him things to cause anxiety or confuse the man – who doesn’t clearly – if at all – remember the incident.

The first civilian on the scene told U.P. Breaking News that he saw a trooper walk over to the running chainsaw and turn it off. U.P. Breaking News has published two audio tapes of the police chase and shooting – and will soon be releasing the audio on what led up to the near fatal event.

However, he is now walking the 7th floor and undergoing physical therapy – his condition having improved drastically last week – although there are still infection concerns. This under a 24-hour guard by police who are positioned outside his room at U.P. Health System – Marquette.

Using a computer in Marquette, Stead was arraigned via video link on Fri., Dec. 2, 2016 – by a judge at the 91st District Court in Sault Ste. Marie, MI – some 165 miles away.

Sitting up in his hospital bed, a bandaged up Stead was looking much better than he had only a week earlier. For several days he was in grave condition and even some doctors feared the infections alone could kill him.

Police have issued press releases about the incident, however the have not named their own. U.P. Breaking News has obtained the names of the MSP troopers involved and will be releasing that information soon – maybe later today,

To police he is a menace to society – however others want the public to know his soft and artful side.

He is not the monster they make him out to be,” a source said. “He is a very nice guy.”

U.P. Breaking News has been contacted by sources close to the investigation and close to the family.

These sources paint a differing picture of a man – who friends reportedly say had started behaving strangely in the days leading up to the domestic dispute with his father.

Sources say he maintained a loving relationship with his parents – that was often stormy as he dealt with drug addiction and other emotional issues.

Sources say Stead has allegedly been diagnosed as bipolar plus other issues like anxiety, depression. The shooting happened during the “first week of deer camp” in the Upper Peninsula, although Stead doesn’t hunt, doesn’t own a gun and his parents do not hunt.

That argument – allegedly over the way Stead was eating – lead to a confrontation at his parent’s cabin in Strongs, MI.

The Mirror Images of Josh and Dad.jpg

Which explain the true Joshua Kenneth Stead – maybe all or just some – maybe a combination make up the true third face of Josh

——

Alleged crazed madman with chainsaw ready to kill police, rammed police car, face-off in middle of highway with roaring chainsaw

or

Used chainsaws to cut logs as he is a talented artisan furniture-maker/wood-crafter, apprentice electrician, certified mechanic, animal lover and dog groomer  – Would never, ever have actually hurt police or anybody with a chainsaw.

He always carries his chainsaws,” a source said.

Chainsaw is last thing he would use as a true weapon as it is like his right hand.

Makes big beds, tables, chairs out of logs and does wood-burning and other techniques on furniture design, run car detail service and has turned old clunkers into brand new looking gems.

He makes cars look brand new,” a source said.

——-

Convicted felon, could have surrendered at any point with a lot fewer charges and not have been almost killed

or

Some think – he was acting strangely going through a dis-associative incident (there is shocking, compelling evidence to back that up) – May not have wanted to go back to prison and could only think “suicide by cop”

——-

Allegedly led police on 100 mph wild high-speed chase n snow-covered highways – endangering citizens, police, and originally parents

or

Friendly, kind, helpful to others, deals with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Has close relationship – sometimes intense relationship – with parents, whom he helps at their cabin.

Comes from prominent family, Stead is the father of a 12-year-old boy.

He speaks blunt – he’s a true talker,” a source said.

He’s the type of guy who would do anything – for anybody,” A source said. “He would give you the shirt off his back.”

If you are his friend, you are a friend for life,” a source said. “And he’s a helluva worker – working 12 and 18 hour days.”

——-

Drug, alcohol addict, relapsing and in-crisis, left rehab early

or

Through determination has kicked heroin – unknown if relapse – and five days in treatment the week prior to shooting – and was set to re-enter treatment after Thanksgiving holidays.

Left rehab to be with parents for Thanksgiving and help around cabin.

He had been acting strangely a few days before he came to the U.P.,” a source explained. “He has struggled with drugs on-and-off since age 17. He went off his (prescribed) meds” for anxiety, depression and bipolar events.

He has been clean (heroin) for years,” a source said.

——-

Fighting with parents/ alleged car thief who crashed alleged stolen vehicle, father had to call police after loud argument in cabin.

or

Some think one of the reasons his parents insisted he come to the U.P. Was because police back in Bellaire were investigating him for taking a car – with keys in it – that belong to the mother of one of Josh’s closest friends. Did allegedly have an accident in that car shortly before coming to U.P.

——-

Blood Reigned Down

bood-rain-josh-stead

Stead was shot twice in the stomach and once in the arm. He reportedly received two “blood transfusions” although its not clear if transfusion was meant literally.

Stead’s mom Tammy (aka Tammie) owns a dog grooming business in Bellaire – and his middle name-sake father Kenneth is the superintendent of the Bellaire Department of Public Works and has served on the village’s building authority.

He is a mama’s boy, a mom’s child – he is definitely a mama’s boy,”said a source.

It was an argument with his father that began an evening of events spiraling downhill – almost leading to his death – and possible leading to a long prison sentence. Like all suspects, he is innocent until convicted in a court of law.

At some point after that argument, Stead flees cabin, then leaves in his 2006 Dodge Ram truck

Stead briefly pulled into a church parking lot after saying he’d talk with the police – but allegedly just sped away. The chase was on. The fateful high speed chase and shooting in Hulbert, Michigan – on M-28 just west of M-123. It’s approximately 13 miles via the highway from the Stead Cabin in Strongs, MI to the shooting scene in Hulbert.

He had at least one chainsaw in the open back of his pickup. He also had a container with tools inside the cab – that he allegedly threw from the car at police during the chase.

Chippewa County Prosecutor Dennis McShane said police acted very professionally even rendering aid to Stead before EMS arrived – and says that is backed up by dash-cam video of the incident apparently in the MSP cars.

McShane authorized charges on November 30, 2016 charging Stead with at least six felonies:

  • Three counts attempted homicide/murder
  • One count assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer causing injury
  • One count malicious destruction of police property
  • One count fleeing and eluding a police officer.

Stead is being held without bond. A preliminary exam is tentatively set for December 15, 2016.

His birthday is five days later – on Dec. 29 Stead will be 36 years old.

No one will release information on the highly unusual case

Sex has also become a business in the U.P. – and everyone knows about the strip club south of Gwinn. Then there are the hush-hush red-light businesses you can find right across the state line. There are even online ads that claim U.P. college students are involved in the sex trade.

Every community in the U.P. seems to have from one to to dozens of sex offenders living peacefully in their community.

But the ones that go rogue – just like the guy nabbed Saturday in Chippewa County.

It was that arrest that made us check the sex offender registry records – and its very easy to use.

With over three dozen non-compliant sex offenders in the U.P. – it has law enforcement concerned and constantly seeking tips on the whereabouts of a non-compliant offender.

But considering there are over 5,000 non-compliant sex offenders in Michigan – the U.P. still appears pretty safe.

However every week U.P. Breaking News hears reports about rapes, incest and all forms of sexual assault – most of which goes unreported unless some official puts out a press release.

Dumpster diving incidents by Marquette’s hungry and begging to help freezing children: Just the cold facts – as grey as the skies

The Real Scare of Halloween: There is ‘No Room at the Inn’ this Holiday Season in Marquette or the Upper Peninsula

Already proof of poverty and hunger issues to come in Marquette, MI and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

By Greg Peterson

(Marquette, MI) – Three incidents of hunger and cold over the past two days in Marquette, MI shows the gales of winter’s poverty and homelessness have come early as the Upper Peninsula.

In fact, the U.P., itself is barely coming to grip with the extent of the growing poverty and a hunger crisis – and if there is any substance abuse issues involving the hungry – all rules seem to get thrown out the window.

State budget cuts and high unemployment ate taking their toll.

The Marquette, Michigan Poverty Incidents Fri., Oct. 28, 2016 and today Sat., Oct. 29, 2016 (so far):

  • A short while ago on this cold Saturday morning a man was begging for food money for his hungry child on Bike Path – possible name is Steve Mert (sp? – we would like to talk to him).

  • Friday – Police called to local restaurant because hungry people were “dumpster diving”

  • Friday – twice on Friday police called to an exclusive neighborhood in north Marquette where a male and a 15-year-old female show up asking to be let inside because they are cold and hungry – they claimed to be neighbors but man who called police did not recognize them.

The Warming Center and the faith-based Room at the Inn Project do what they can – with almost no money. They are forced to weed out – send packing or arrested – all those who have been drinking or doing drugs. Police do not have the jail space to lock away the problem – nor should they be expected.

The problem is likely to get worse as the snow blankets the U.P.

Out of real fear, should people not help those who arrive at their door seeking help?

What would Jesus or any of the faith leaders do?

How many will die this winter suffering in the frozen U.P.?

How cold are we as humans with people who are fallible?

Painkiller ring in Chippewa County busted after undercover buys – four arrested in Soo raid

The TRI-D.EN.T Spear – Pain killers bust by the eastern Upper Peninsula Tri-County  Drug Enforcement Task Force
Undercover probe leads to four more arrests for allegedly running an opiates distribution ring in Chippewa County

trident-logo

Prior to the arrest of four suspects with their alleged parts in an painkiller ring, a state and federal drug team in the Eastern U.P. made numerous undercover buys and then raided a home on Maple St. in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, according to a TRIDENT press release from Chippewa County Undersheriff Michael Bitnar.

The opiates bust was made by the eastern Upper Peninsula Tri-County  Drug Enforcement Task Force – better known as Tri-D.EN.T or simply TRIDENT by those afraid of its spear.

The drugs were allegedly procured downstate for sale in the eastern U.P.

One suspect is employed as a cook, the other three unemployed.

Arrested were:

Edward James Willis, Jr., 28, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Adam Scott Glaser, 26, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Krysta Lee Fike, 24, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Kurtis Robert Bruni, 29, Pickford, MI

ANOTHER DEAD KINROSS INMATE: Terror and fear reported at Kinross Correctional Facility

Another Kinross Inmate is Dead: Kinross  Prison reported in state of fear and terror for both Michigan Corrections Officers and the Inmates following recent riot

Died from lack of water?

Officials refuse to say what happened to latest dead inmate at Kinross

Kinross unrest and danger is a real and present danger to public, staff and prisoners in eastern U.P., our investigation shows

(Kinross, MI) – An ongoing investigation by U.P. Breaking News into reports of abuse of inmates – and of real danger to state corrections officers – has numerous sources reporting a state of fear, danger and retaliation at controversial prison in the eastern part of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

First the guy who died yesterday was no saint – a long record of crimes – but he was not sentenced to death by the jury. Yet he died yesterday under mysterious circumstances that may include lack of hydration.

Yesterday (Mon., 10-10-16), U.P. Breaking News reported that emergency medical officials were called to the prison to treat an inmate who was not responsive. Well, that inmate, Charles Lee Anderson, is dead.

He recently celebrated his 51st birthday.

His crimes are long and terrible, but sources familiar with the case say he should not have died yesterday.

kinross-3We have left a message for the Kinross Warden – but he has not returned our calls.

Numerous sources report a state of fear and danger – that is felt by both inmates and corrections officers at Kinross. Recently state budget cuts in the Upper Peninsula have put lives at danger – and even led to numerous deaths, an investigation by U.P. Breaking News shows.

Without even hearing from state officials, U.P. Breaking News believes the state would deny the budget cuts have lead to deaths in the U.P. – so we are putting up their generic denial as a courtesy.

Remember while fires were set and a massive riot was underway, MDOC officials lied to reporters about how serious the recent riot was at Kinross. U.P. Breaking News has to post proof in the former of sate communications before state officials acknowledged a riot had happened. See our youtube page for the audio.

One source said the state is legally obliged to provide and strive for an environment that is safe to both inmates and corrections officers – which by the way – we have heard there are many good COs at Kinross who are also disgusted with how the prison has devolved into danger to staff and inmates.

Out investigation shows, we believe, that federal authorities need to raid Kinross asap before more deaths occur.

**State officials are urged to call U.P. Breaking News 906-273-2433. Please.

***U.P. Breaking News is also amazed that the union officials from the Michigan State Troopers and Corrections Officers Unions are not making the public aware of these dangers caused by budget cuts. I would not want to even live near the prison right now.

U.P. Breaking News Bulletin: Little is known about highly visible state and federal raid at K.I. Sawyer on Friday as parents reported being happy with the highly visible nature of the SWAT-like raid that frightened kids – hopefully making an impact on their view on drugs

SO FAR AUTHORITIES MUM ON FRIDAY’S DRAMATIC K.I. SAWYER RAID

By Greg Peterson

U.P. Breaking News

(K.I. Sawyer, MI) – Few details are known about a dramatic highly visible state, federal and local raid on Friday at least one K.I. Sawyer residence in Marquette County, Michigan – a raid that even frightened local children because of its drama but pleased parents because of its size, execution and message.

State and federal agents – including members of UPSET – wore tactical gear and were heavily armed when they conducted the daylight raid in a Sawyer neighborhood. Numerous K.I. sawyers residents contacted U.P. Breaking News after witnessing the raid.

Its unclear the reason for the raid although its known that Sawyer has been the subject of numerous investigations into a drug pipeline from Midwestern cities like Detroit, Chicago and several in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Drugs like heroin, crack cocaine, suboxone, painkillers, meth and others have become a huge problem across the U.P. That is the fight cops battled daily.

upset-logoDEA, ATF, FBI, and other federal agents have teamed up with UPSET and other regional drug team to make numerous raids across the U.P. in recent months.

One difference in this raid is how visible it was as U.P. Breaking News has received numerous reports including how it shocked local kids – and was a welcome message from parents who know the issues involving drugs and guns on the former Air Force Base.

U.P Breaking News has reached out to authorities for information but so far nothing has been released publicly.

It’s unclear whether state of federal charges were at stake in this raid.

U.P. Breaking News has confirmed that a federal grand jury sitting in Marquette this past week returned numerous indictments – and its not unusual for indictments to remain sealed until the suspects are in custody.

U.P. Breaking News has examined federal search warrants over the past few years that indicate the drug problem has not escaped the noticed of authorities and future arrests are certain.

We are not sure if other locations were taken down by authorities Friday or today.
