(Escanaba, MI) – A very serious ORV accident near the Delta County Airport on Friday night has left the driver with critical injuries and he was flown to the trauma center in Marquette, MI.
The ATV crash was reported about 7 p.m. ET tonight, Friday, April 27, 101`8 in Escanaba, MI. The four-wheeler rollover happened on an unnamed dirt road near the Delta County Airport.
The victim is a 38-year-old man who was flown by Valley Med Flight to Marquette’s trauma center at U.P. Health System-Marquette. The chopper arrived in Marquette about 8:30 p.m. ET Friday night.
The 2014 Honda 4-Wheeler was registered to 38-year-old Jay Joel Fain of Escanaba, MI. Fain has past addresses listed online in Perkins, Bark River, Gladstone, Portage in Michigan – and the Texas cities of Denison, Copperas Cove, and Kempner.
Fain suffered serious injuries.
“He rolled the machine,” paramedics radioed to Marquette doctors while in flight.
“He has head trauma – he is currently intubated,” the paramedics said aboard the medivac, adding medication was administered for severe pain and sedation.
The victim has “a hematoma to the head – no obvious deformities.” The victim was covered with scrapes, bruises and “road rash” on flank and back areas.
When asked over the radio – by a nurse – about the ATV’s rate of speed and whether the victim was ejected – the flight paramedics answer outlined a violence crash.
“Witnesses said they saw him tumbling through the air with the machine,” the paramedics told ER nurses. The crash was on a dirt road near the airport.
“All units respond to the airport we have a four-wheeler rollover on that property. The victim, who suffered trauma injuries, was still breathing, witnesses told 911.
“You go into the airport, you go past the airport parking, past Upper Hand Brewery – to a first dirt road on the left past Upper Hand,” a dispatcher told responding units looking for the crash.
Rampart Ambulance service called for Valley Med Flight for the victim.
The Valley Med Flight chopper had just returned from an emergency flight to Marquette, quickly refueled at their base, then flew to the delta County Airport for the accident victim.
