This startling update – we now understand that the shooting victim in Chippewa County is a child
Law enforcement was sent to the Soo hospital to investigate a “gunshot” hunting accident in which a child has been shot.
“They had a 10-year-old male come in – had a hunting accident this morning around 7 – he was possibly hit by a shotgun,” the4 dispatcher told responding officers.
No other details are available as officials have not released information on the incident.

Man shows up at Soo hospital and says he was shot, wounded while hunting

(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) – A man showed up at the Soo hospital just after 10 a.m. today and reported he had been shot in a hunting accident.
Today is the opening day of a five-week spring turkey season.
The victim is at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. It is unclear if he shot himself or was wounded by another hunter.
Law enforcement was sent to the hospital to investigate the case. It is not known if Michigan DNR Conservation Officers have been notified about the incident.
The victim was able to make it to the hospital without an ambulance – so his injuries are thought to be relatively minor. The name of the victim has not been released.
In fact, he may have been wounded by some shotgun pellets rather than a high power rifle bullet.
Today is the opening of the 2018 Spring Turkey Season in Michigan including the entire Upper Peninsula.
