(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – Police and fire officials across the U.P. Were kept busy this weekend including a suicidal teen who drank bleach, a man who was injured and then angry when a pressured can exploded while he was burning trash.

There were at least four snowmobile accidents with injuries on Saturday, March 10, 2018 including three in Chippewa County and one in Keweenaw County.
The Keweenaw County accident on Brockway Mountain – and two of those in Chippewa County involved snowmobilers driving fast and crashing into trees in corners – and absolutely destroying their snowmobiles.
In fact, its amazing someone survived the Brockway wreck – because the sled was smashed.
No serious injuries but four sledders were hurt.

The other Chippewa County crash was a sledder crossing the ice on the St. Mary’s River in Detour Village off the coast from Spring Bay Road and S. River Street area. The man was traveling at a high rate of speed and flipped the snowmobile.
He was “up and walking” shortly after the crash.
U.P. Breaking News has now confirmed that there have been at least 9 snowmobile fatalities and three critical injuries in the past 11 weeks.

Yet the state refuses to put up big, big signs warning about curves and demanding the sledders slow down. (U.P. Trails are deadlier than the highways).

Speeding over 100 MPH on today’s snowmobiles is suicide – and there is no way to fix it without behavioral changes – so anyone who has a loved one on a snowmobile should give them hell about slowing down – big time hell.

In Delta County Sunday afternoon, March 11, 2018, paramedics and others were called to a report that a man was cut all over his face, bleeding and in pain.

It appears an aerosol type can was in trash that the victim was burning – and it “exploded all over his face.”

The man also was sick to his stomach and had shooting pains through his thighs.

The dispatcher then warned officers the man was mad at his female partner, accusing her of putting the can in the trash to be burned.

Meanwhile near tragedy in Marquette County on Saturday night, March 10, 2018 at the Teaching Family Homes facility for youth that have been horribly abused or severely neglected – and the major affects that causes on a young person.
A 13-year-old boy “drank bleach” in a suicide attempt. He was on the edge of the property with two other youths. An ambulance and police were sent – and the boy apparently was not seriously injured after allegedly taking “a few gulps of bleach.” So Sad.

In Marquette County, a federal prisoner was taken into custody – and even charged with attempting to obstructing/resisting arrest with law enforcement officers.
He is 28-year-old Walter Noe Aguilera-Aguilar (address unconfirmed).
Aguilera-Aguilar is being held on a no bond federal detainer and has a $5,000 bond set for attempted resisting arrest/obstructing a police officer.
Aguilera-Aguilar was booked into the Marquette County Jail at two minutes before midnight on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
The details are not known.

Meanwhile – another man was busted Sunday afternoon for lying to the cops.
18-year-old Christopher Michael Hughes of Marquette, MI was booked into the Marquette County Jail at 1:49 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
Hughes remains jailed this morning (Monday) on a charge of “lying to a peace officer.”
The details are not known.

At least five people were busted this weekend in Marquette County and another five in Delta County for drunken driving – one suspect in Marquette had a blood alcohol level of .076 and another was charged under the “no tolerance” law – plus one woman allegedly was driving drunk with a kid in the car. U.P. Breaking News generally only reports names on felony drunken driving – although it varies by case – including when suspects resist arrest.

Non-scientific estimate by UPBN based on pullovers by police – 25 percent of U.P. drivers are illegal.

It appears at least one in four (25 percent) of Yooper drivers are either suspended, no insurance, or drunk driving with multiple arrests. That’s scary.

Generally though, we have heard some U.P. police running tags of older vehicles – while still rolling – before an official stop because its the poorer drivers who are most likely to be rolling illegal for something.

And finally on Sunday, heard about a 13-day old baby rushed from Munising Memorial Hospital the U.P. Health System Marquette to be treated for possible meningitis. Again, how terrible and gut-wrenchingly sad. Hopefully the docs are the Marquette hospital will work their magic. Prayers.

Editors note: If you did not see it – check out our FB advisory from Sunday on the downstate woman wanted by USCG Sector Soo for taking photos of the Soo Locks from an apparently restricted area. No word on whether the coasties had a chance to have a conversation with the woman. Plus see our report on the truck through the ice on Little Bay de Noc on Sunday.

Snowmobiler luck to survive Saturday crash in Chippewa County – U.P. Breaking News has confirmed at least 9 people have died in snowmobile crashes in past 11 weeks – and maybe more

(Paradise Michigan) – A snowmobiler narrowly escaped death today as his sled crashed into a tree in Chippewa County, MI.

The man was driving his sled on Snowmobile Trail Number 9 when he lost control and his at least one tree. The wreck was reported about 11:30 a.m. on today, Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Numerous emergency officials went to the scene – and he was transported to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. His injuries were described as serious enough but not life-threatening.

The identity of the man and his age have not been released.

The Whitefish Volunteer Fire department and Whitefish EMS were dispatched to help the victim.
The wreck on Trail 9 was not far from the W. Curley Lewis Highway. Another access point to the trail was the East-West Road. Emergency officials from Hulbert were dispatched but canceled.

The male victim was traveling with three other snowmobilers, who immediately called 911 and helped guide in emergency first responders and paramedics. Several law enforcement agencies were on the scene.

U.P. Breaking News has now confirmed that at least 9 people have died and at least another three others have been very critically injured in Upper Peninsula snowmobile crashes since mid-December.

In addition to speed and unfamiliarity of the trails, U.P. Breaking News has been told that there a few trail signs – and that signs clearly indicating an approach to curves are badly needed.

And sadly, there is likely to be another fatality (probably many, averaging almost one per week) before spring  – and then we will post the photos and info we have on the latest deaths not yet reported extensively.
Apparently the state of Michigan doesn’t consider snowmobile trails as dangerous as the highway. Even the few posted snowmobile signs are very small.
Maybe one day the victims family’s will demand more of the Michigan legislature. How many have to die?

Editorial:

We recently discovered a snowmobile death that happened about 9 days after a crash that – and her passing was not widely reported despite a press release. There are some U.P. law enforcement agencies – including in some cases the state police – that refuse to release info on fatal snowmobile crashes or wait until pressured to do so. Its like dealing with stubborn raging children – because they get furious when asked for info.

Sadly wrecks are a reality just as on highways. Kudos for the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s office. The sheriff of Keweenaw County must be more far enlightened about the modern world – than many other law enforcement agency bosses.

The sheriff of Keweenaw County – and a few other law officials – appear to quickly release news – including updates – and then get on with life instead of an exhausting cover-up. The backwards lawmen in th U.P seem to be unstable – as in their minds they are living in the U.P. of 30 years ago – and get mad if media requests info.

And we must say – the majority of the U.P. news media are easily fended off because they fear retaliation and make excellent lapdogs. Good news is great, but grow up and be adults who live in America – not the state of Mushroomland.

Gave witnesses more cover-ups in the U.P. than I ever did in Georgia -but Georgia also had an effective FBI white collar crime unit. Not just chasing things on the rez. With the Marquette FBI we think it is a funding issue not the agents.

Today or tomorrow, we will report the cover-up of the deaths of three Yoopers – involving official misconduct and unprofessionalism the western U.P.

Even when conflicting information on something is public – like audio recordings – officials do not mind blatantly lying – and the media seem to wear blinders. Have heard they are trying to claim audio from broadcastify has been faked. Shame on them, three people died. What was a mistake has turned into a criminal cover-up with public lies and omissions have recently been made at city council meetings.

I am shocked that some state police and some sheriffs in Michigan are more secretive, devious and love covering things up – than any I met in Georgia. At least in Georgia, the white collar criminals and sheriff’s are busted by FBI. But then – what can I expect from the staties – when one of the biggest killers is Governor of Michigan, who allows his top health chief to keep a job while accused with killing taxpayers.

(Sault Ste. Marie MI) – Names and more information are coming out five days after that violent fiery crash involving a snowmobile and a tracked vehicle pulling a groomer in Chippewa County, MI.

A Chippewa County man who was killed and a downstate Ada man was critically burned in the crash on Snowmobile Trail Number 8 in the area of the Algonquin Ski Trail at about 10:40 a.m. ET Monday morning, Feb. 26, 2018 in Sault Ste. Marie.

65-year-old Roy Lee Pederson, of Paradise, MI was killed at the scene of the crash. At least 7 people have died in just over two months in U.P. snowmobile accidents. Pederson was a State Park Ranger with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, according to his obituary.

“He loved everything to do with the outdoors. He also loved to go to his grandsons’ hockey games. If they were playing, he was there!”

Scroll down to see the full obituary. Memorial services will not be held.

The driver of the 2014 Yamaha snowmobile was 58-year-old Mark S. Goss of downstate Ada. MI. Goss was rushed to War Memorial Hospital in the Soo. Goss was later flown to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with severe burns.

It explains why authorities were trying to reach the AMWAY world headquarters in Ada. Goss worked at AMWAY, and his namesake son interned at the company.

Pedersen was driving a 2015 John Deere Gator side by side, equipped with tracks. He had been grooming a nearby cross country ski trail when the grooming vehicle and the snowmobile collided.

There have been at least 7 snowmobile fatalities in just over two months during a horrific snowmobiling season on Upper Peninsula Trails. At least four people have been critically injured in U.P. snowmobile crashes since mid-December 2017.

After U.P. Breaking News exposed the police audio from the accident – officials finally released a vague statement that has appeared in some of the U.P. media.

Hawes was riding his sled on Snowmobile Trail #8 (between M-123, Curley Lewis Highway) during the noon hour on that Tuesday in Chippewa County.

Hawes missed a curve and struck a tree traveling very fast. Speed and unfamiliarity of snowmobile trails (surprise curves) is a big factor in many of the deaths. Tremendous speeds that kill instantly. Hawes apparently did not see the curve until it was too late. Hawes and his sled then slammed into trees.

Hawes was married and leaves behind a wife and daughter.

(Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan) – A snowmobile vs a track vehicle have crashed and burst into flames in Sault Ste. Marie, MI – and seriously injured at least two people.
Two people have been taken to the hospital with very serious burns.
It appears there is a fatality involved. Police have called for a body bag to be brought to the scene, so it is unclear if there is a third victim.

There were conflicting reports from the tracked vehicle hitting a deer, to a groomer – we are reporting what was said. Most dispatches said there was a snowmobile involved – and all mentioned the tracked vehicle – Until a press release we will not know the details

Several dispatches described the tracked vehicle as a Gator – and another a similar vehicle called a Ranger.

The crash was reported about 10:40 a.m. ET this morning, Mon. Feb. 26, 2018,
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and an Accident Investigator have been called. A formal investigation will be conducted.
The crash is on Trail 8 – three quarters of a mile west of the trail head in the neighborhood of 20th Avenue.
