Ex-stabbing victim – now allegedly armed with switchblades – and a convicted sex offender and convicted robber – that is jailed in Gogebic County after alleged early morning stickup attempt at Ironwood convenience store

(Ironwood, MI) – A convicted Minnesota sex offender who was allegedly armed with switchblades was arrested early today after the report of an armed robbery in progress at an Ironwood convenience store.
“There is someone trying to rob him,” the dispatcher told police officers rushing to the scene. “He has two knives – he is at the counter.”
A former stabbing victim – the suspect allegedly turned knives on the clerk – I is not clear what charges have been filed. The case will likely have to be reviewed by the Gogebic County Prosecutor’s Officer. Ironwood Police and possible other law enforcement were quickly at the scene and the clerk was not hurt.
The incident started about 1:49 p.m. CT local time this morning, Thurs., Dec. 2016.
“Apparently the subject no longer has the knives in his hand,” the dispatcher told officers about a minute into the call. “He is at the counter facing the clerk.”
“He has two switchblades – approximately three inches long,” officers were told, however the suspect then indicated “he had three (knives) – he is holding.”
Initial reports indicate the clerk of the Holiday Gas Station at 805 E. Cloverland Drive in Ironwood – called police to reported he was being robbed at knifepoint allegedly by a man with two to three knives.
The suspect was described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, a goatee, tattoos on the neck and a black sweatshirt.
“The suspect has a knife in his front sweatshirt pocket,” the dispatcher warned officers.
“One police officer asked the dispatcher – is the suspect “still on the scene,?” as the officer arrived in about two and a half minutes – and officers apparently quickly unarmed and handcuffed the suspect.
The suspect apparently remained in the store until police arrived.
Hurley, WI police units offered to respond with mutual aid – but the arrest went down so quickly – other officers were apparently not needed.
The suspect – 35 year old Chade (Chadd) Mathias Andert of 107 E Mcleod Ave. in Ironwood, MI – is a compliant Tier 1 sex offender who is living in Ironwood and the conviction is out of Minnesota.
However, records also indicate the suspect was stabbed by two other people and hospitalized about 12 years ago – records state Andert was 27 and living in Ironwood at the time when he was stabbed on Oct. 12, 2004.
Charged in circuit court for that alleged crime were 40-year-old Leslie Ann Bradley of Hurley, WI and 37-year-old James E. Thomas of Racine, WI.
Andert’s rap sheet is long and violent including January 2004 conviction for aggravated armed robbery. In some records the suspect’s first name is spelled Chadd – while in other public records it is Chade Andert.
