Under Control: Sunday noon-hour fully engulfed fire reported in housing at the former K.I. Sawyer AFB in Marquette County, MI; No Injuries reported

(K.I. Sawyer, Michigan) – A “fully engulfed” residential fire has apparently been brought under control not long after it reported about 12:40 p.m. (today) Sun., Aug. 24, 2014 at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.

The blaze was reported in former base housing – now apartment rentals – on the 300 block of Commando St.

Fortunately, initial reports indicated everyone was out of the residence – and so far no injuries reported.

The blaze is being battled by the Forsyth Township Volunteer Fire Department – with assistance from police agencies.

The Marquette County Rescue Squad Unit 131 was dispatched to the scene but then canceled indicating everything was under control. When sent to home fires, Rescue 131 usually helps with refilling firefighter air-packs or lighting).

Please stay clear of the area until emergency crews have left.
