Vehicle hits gas pipe – causes lock down at Manistique elementary school

(Manistique, MI) – An elementary school is on a safety lock down at this hour after a nearby vehicle accident involving a natural gas leak.
Shortly after 2 p.m. today, Thurs., Dec. 14, 2017, an accident was reported that involves a car hitting a natural gas pipe.
The gas is leaking – and officers on the scene immediately ordered a lock down of the Emerald Elementary School about a blocked to the east of the crash.
A school official confirmed the lock down is still in effect.
SEMCO officials have been notified to respond to the scene and fix the problem.
No injuries have been reported.
