(Alger County, MI) – Numerous emergency personnel are headed to a report of two people stuck on an “iceberg” type ice flow that is floating toward Lake Superior in Au Train Bay.
The pair are floating on a ledge of ice at the mouth of the Au Train River at Lake Superior.

The rescue began about 8:40 p.m. ET tonight Tuesday March 27, 2018.

The two people are floating out into Au Train Bay on Lake Superior on a large chunk of ice that broke free from near the shore at the mouth of the Au Train River.

It appears at third person with the group is safe onshore – and we think its two men on the ice flow.

One official said the hovercraft may be difficult to use – and suggested they swim to the victims.

“I sounds like they are on iceberg about 50 yards long – that broke free and was ten feet from shore but now” has drifted offshore,” the dispatcher told firefighters and other emergency officials responding to the scene.

This includes specially-trained ice rescue officers in special water suits from Alger County Sheriff’s Department and Alger County EMS paramedics and rescue personnel – and Alger Rescue 21.
