Parents of Finlandia University black athletes say “NIGGER” is just one of the racial epitaphs thrown at Finlandia football players – the players told their parents back home on nights long before the Finlandia Football Fiasco heard stories for months of racial slurs being thrown at their football player sons – including “Nigger”

(Hancock, Michigan) – You are already worried about your son’s safety because he and his friends were thrown to the wolves in a major storm by the University that recruited them – and at first made them feel welcome.
The parents of some of the athletes want the NAACP to probe racism allegations and do a national investigation into what happened and what was said during various scuffles and during a now infamous pickup basketball game between the white baseball players and the black football players – a game that ended badly and is believed to be the catalyst to everything since.
“My son and his friends were called ‘NIGGER’ by students at Finlandia,” Tachelle Landin told U.P. Breaking News from her home in Saginaw. “This happened many times. The call our boys NIGGER.”
Landin wants U.P. residents to know this is a serious situation. She is the mother of ex- Finlandia Player #57 Brandon Landin. He is the oldest of four children with sisters aged 15 and 19, and three-year-old younger brother.
“I am in disbelief,” Landin said. “Finlandia came and recruited my son, brought him hundreds of miles away” and then Finlandia University , its leadership and students “treat them like crap.”
The expelled football players from Saginaw “did not grow up gang violence, where taught morals and given a good education,” Landin said.
The Saginaw players were “treated horribly” by some Finlandia students, other athletes and even staff, she said. Finlandia University “has all those white kids, but no one cares if our boys feel comfortable and safe.”
“I’m angry,” Landin said. “I think the NAACP should investigate what happened” at Finlandia University.”
“I feel for my kid because he is a good kid,” she said.
She said the Saginaw football players are not troublemakers and left for Hancock with hopes that northern Michigan would be a kind, friendly and safe place to get and education and play ball.
“In the heat of an argument who knows what was said” by all the athletes involved, Landin said.
“These are respectable kids – they have never been in trouble,” Landin said. “My son is laughing all the time.”
Brandon’s parents are college educated including his father – who was going for his .phd when he died when the young man was 15 years old.
The players fear that the Finlandia University statement about them are so unfair and shocking that the school has impugn their careers and cause irreparable harm to their reputations – a burden that will follow their families for generations forever riding the internet highway.
Plus tonight U.P. Breaking News can declared we have caught Finlandia University officials in a lie or at the very least – an effort to misdirect the public, students, staff and the media.
There were seven Finlandia University football players expelled total – a few days apart.
Two players were expelled one day last week -and the other five on Tuesday. A fact that U.P. Breaking News been reporting that fact since Tuesday night. Two players were expelled for assault/being in a fight – but the shocking charge is the accusation Finlandia University leveled against the other five players.
The football players were thrown out because Finlandia was scared of a “a quickly escalating hostile climate characterized by student-to-student threats, intimidation and retaliation.”
Also, the black athletes say that U.P. residents simply do not understand how they feel – especially evident in the wake of the Hancock Police Chief arguing that his department’s presence during the abrupt expulsions was not a perceived as a threat and intimidation.
Parents argue that the football players were booted in a way that is completely unfit for a Christian university. Especially Finlandia University, whose national bishop has been preaching that parishioners must come to terms with their own racism and racial biases – but the first step is admitting those flaws.
With all that hostility directed at the players and family by the university, then the mothers get a call ever mom dreads. There sons have been in a bad accident – on top of being homeless during a snowstorm in the Copper Country of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The three Saginaw football players were involved in a a snow-related crash on the Houghton Lift Bridge – totaling their only car. The expelled teammates were trying to find a friend’s place to stay.
Now they the Saginaw football players do not have a ride home. The African American players are now stranded in the “Great White North” only a couple days since were given an hour to gather up there things at Finlandia University -given $50 and one night in a hotel – and told to get out. Relatives and friends are scrambling to bring all the men home.
Thankfully the ex-players are not seriously hurt – and are recovering tonight at an undisclosed location. The players from Saginaw, Michigan involved in the accident were Landin’s son Ex- Finlandia Player #57 Brandon Landin; and his life long pals Ex- Finlandia Player #21 (Red shirt) Wide Receiver Darrion Robinson and Ex- Finlandia Player #24 James Christian.
The Finlandia Seven:
Ex- Finlandia Player #57 Brandon Landin of Saginaw, MI
Ex- Finlandia Player #21 (Red shirt) Wide Receiver Darrion Robinson of Saginaw, MI
Ex- Finlandia Player #24 James Christian of Saginaw, MI
(Arrested) Ex- Finlandia Player #18 Tajuante Anderson of Milwaukee, WI
(Threatened with arrest) Ex- Finlandia Player #80 Corey Dunn of Coconut Creek, FL
(Still under threat with criminal charges) Ex- Finlandia Player #93 DeAndre Cranston of Coconut Creek, FL
The three expelled Saginaw players grew up together going to the same high school and playing football. Football is my son’s life,” Landin said, adding as much as it would be nice for the students to be reinstated – but “things will never be the same.”
“I have pictures of my son holding a football at 6 months old,” she said.
Some of the athletes submitted three paragraph statements today to Finlandia officials in an appeal designed to explain why the expulsions should be reversed.
The families hope for reconciliation but may are afraid Finlandia University has show it spots.
Cranston and Anderson were ordered to do community service for allegedly being involved in a breaking and entering in May at the Finlandia cafeteria – that was captured on tape and investigated by campus police. In fact, there are allegations that the campus police are being encouraged to cover-up incidents involving athletes.
“My son is a good boy,” Landin said, adding he was never in trouble in school and that their middle class neighborhood in Saginaw is in shock that one of their favorites sons – and their families – are being treated so rudely by Finlandia’s top officials.
Especially since the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is asking people to confront racism.
The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, ELCA presiding bishop, called on its 3.7 million members to “be the church that models for the rest of this country what it means to have these difficult conversations” about racial inequality.
In addition to the NAACP, schools officials likely realize how exposed the university could be if the inmates bring lawsuits. A U.P. Breaking News editorial has called for the Finlandia president, athletic director and the baseball and football coaches to resign, be fired – or even better “expelled.”
These are the men trying to float a story that only the black football players deserve to be punished – and the white baseball players have done nothing wrong.
Every person at Finlandia was not mean to the Landin family, in fact one employee wept twice – but the Landins do not want the employee identified because they fear what the administration might do about his compassionate response.

(Saginaw, Michigan) – Now that The Finlandia Seven have been booted off campus – and some arrested – the mother of one of the Finlandia University football players is demanding a national investigation into the incident.
The NAACP is being asked to probe why only the black football players were expelled – and some arrested – while no action has been taken against the white baseball players – who were involved in several brawls and tussles with one another.
“I am asking the NACCP, to investigate what happened at Finlandia University,” said Jeanette Christian, who is essentially “mother hen” to two of the Saginaw football players – her son #24 sophomore defensive back James Christian of Saginaw, MI and #21 (Red shirt) wide receiver Darrion Robinson of Saginaw, MI.
The Finlandia Seven were expelled from campus given $50 for food and one night at a hotel. Christian tells U.P. Breaking News that she is worried about the other non-expelled Saginaw and African American students left to fend on campus – with their friends and support system gone.
Christian says she talked with Finlandia University President Philip Johnson – and says she was not given answers, treated badly and says the players were kicked out despite the approaching winter storm.
Now, it is Finlandia University that is facing a storm of allegations including covering up a rape and sending the victim home, downplaying incidents like a breaking and entering – and not properly supervising the football players – many of whom come from different daily lifestyles and end up in Hancock, MI.
“President Johnson was very rude,” Christian said. “He just blamed the football players.”
When the football players were abruptly expelled, she said the Finlandia officials “did not guarantee the safety” of the black players who are getting taunted and vilified.
“All hell broke loose” at Finlandia on Monday and Tuesday – and included a confrontation between suspended players an all the top officials (scroll down to read about the events).
The heated confrontation involved expelled players, Head Football Coach Tim Driscoll, Athletic Director Curtis Wittenberg, Finlandia University President Philip Johnson, local law enforcement, and campus security.
Christian says she has heard stories for a long time about “racial slurs” being thrown towards black students at Finlandia University. Christian believes the black and white players involved in the fight should all be treated the same.
“If they are going to expel the football players, then the baseball players should have been expelled,” she said.
Arrested were Finlandia University football defensive back Tajuante Anderson of Milwaukee and lineman De Andre Cranston of Coconut Creek, FL.
The suspects were reportedly released on $350 bond posted by other Finlandia Football Players.
U.P. Breaking News contacted the assault victim – white baseball player Austin Albrecht of Alba Center, Wisconsin. Albrecht has so far refused comment.
Albrecht received numerous injuries while being beaten and kicked – including a broken nose and a broken eye socket.
Albrecht is earning a degree in biology, and plays middle infielder.
Numerous sources have said this incident has jeopardized the future of Finlandia football that has spent millions on its program but received little public attendance.

(Hancock, MI) – At least two Finlandia University football players were arrested last night for allegedly attacking a baseball player – and sources say a “fight club” is even popular in the dorms.
This is one of several scandals that sources say have happened so far this year at Finlandia – including football players allegedly committing burglaries – a rape in which an athlete wasn’t charged and the female victim force to leave the school – and even reports of a “Fight Club” in the dorms.
Shocked sources say that staff have even complained about a “fight club” that is popular in the dorms – and out of control students are a big concern.
The two football players who were arrested were expelled from Finlandia today, sources say.
Arrested were Finlandia University football defensive back Tajuante Anderson of Milwaukee and lineman De Andre Cranston of Coconut Creek, FL.
The suspects were reportedly released on $350 bond posted by other Finlandia Football Players.
The suspect were reportedly taken into custody by Michigan State Police.
Cranston and Anderson were also order to do community service for allegedly being involved in a breaking and entering in May at the Finlandia cafeteria – that was captured on tape an investigated by campus police. In fact, there are allegations that the campus police are being encouraged to cover-up incidents involving athletes.
A third football player – and close friend of Cranston was also implicated in the assault but its is unclear if charges will be filed again that player, whom sources identify as wide receiver Corey Dunn – also of Coconut Grove, FL.
The victim is Austin Albrecht of Alba Center, Wisconsin.
Albrecht received numerous injuries while being beaten and kicked – including a broken nose and a broken eye socket.
Albrecht is earning a degree in biology, and plays middle infielder.
“A lot of the athletes are troublesome to faculty and advisers,” a source told U.P. Breaking News.
The brawl occurred Friday night at a residence off-campus during a party where the football and baseball players started feuding.
In Oct., about 14 Finlandia football players were said to have been involved in an incident on Ryan Street
Sources believe that incident stemmed from a brawl following a “pick up” basketball games between the players.
Sources say faculty, resident advisers and staff are fearful that the coddling of athletes – and other concerns – have some worried about relations with students. Some even fear an angry student will come to campus with a gun.
Sources say despite millions pumped into the football program – very few people actually attend the average Finlandia University football game. A recent multimillion dollar project saw an upgrade of McAfee Field including state of the art scoreboard.
