Inmate Hanging Reported at the Chippewa County Jail

(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) – At last report, CPR was underway on a Chippewa County Jail inmate who hung himself this afternoon.

“We have CPR in progress – can you bring the drug box,” an official on the scene told fellow emergency officials.

The suicide attempt incident was reported about 3 p.m. today at the Chippewa County Jail located at 325 Court Street in Sault Ste. Marie.

“You are needed at 325 Court street – the county jail for an attempted suicide by hanging,” a 911 dispatcher told Soo Fire and Ambulance EMS

It is not clear if the inmate survived as officials feverishly administered CPR.

“I just sent our ambulance to our county jail for an attempted suicide by hanging,” the dispatcher told a law enforcement official.
