Marquette Branch Prison and U.P. State Prison Scandals Part 3: A deadly, bloody riot could break out at any moment in U.P. prisons because of understaffing, corruption, power-grabbing wardens and long-term abuse of inmates from physical assaults while cuffed to eating years of rotten maggoty food

(Marquette, MI) – At any minute inmates could easily take over a U.P. prison and the state’s prevention strategy is to move around convicts with the leadership and charisma to be inmate leaders – however pitifully low and dangerous staffing combined with festering hate, has both cons and corrections officers fearing that even a spontaneous riot would quickly turn large, violent and bloody.
Its not matter of numbers, the inmates could takeover any U.P. prison in a few seconds – especially during chow. There is plenty of festering hate and anger on all sides.
Inmates know that never in the history of the U.P. has a state prisoner has never won a federal civil rights lawsuit. The few lawsuit settlements have involved such extreme violence and obvious lasting injuries that even COs who are experienced cover-up artists cannot make it go away. So the state has to write a modest check.
On the other side, COs know that they cannot fight a corruption-fueled MDOC system that acts like a rampaging dinosaur. Even those who try, get kicked in the chops and punished. The CO labor unions are notoriously unorganized, ineffective and corrupt – offering little worker protection.
Employee understaffing and the oppressive deadly work environment contributes to some overstressed COs seeing themselves turning into beasts – doing terribly cruel things to prisoners that they would never have imagined themselves doing when hired.
Good COs are punished for reporting nearly any kind of incidents. Then there are some COs and vicious inmates who have always enjoy inflicting harm on others – at the drop of a hat.
Throw in maggot-infested, rotten and unfit food the inmates have been fed in the U.P. for years. That and more is a recipe for disaster.
U.P. prisons are tinder kegs. Both inmates and COs – even those of goodwill – are understandably scared and furious.
The abused inmates can’t wait to get revenge on anyone – anyone. The COs will be their first victims – a nightmare U.P. COs are used to having – some repeatedly.
All U.S. corrections officers know that death is around every corner in all prisons – but the remote UP. is an especially overripe and stinking hornets nest that all sides fear is an impending prison disaster. It’s not if, it is when.
After all, U.P. COs deserve enough staff for a much safer working environment that isn’t like being sucked into a vile whirlpool of fermenting death. And in America, we pride ourselves in being more humane than much of the rest of the uncivil world. Like the old saying goes – “Hey, we are trying to run a society here.”
A society in which petty criminals and all inmates have the right for humane treatment and a modicum of dignity – even those inmates who have committed heinous murders, rapes and other sickening crimes that put them in prison for life.
The ONLY thing that has prevented a U.P. prison takeover is a flimsy state policy of keeping the inmates back on their heals – by moving around those with the ability to organize fellow prisoners.
In fact, the Kinross riot organizers have been figuratively thrown into deep holes in a variety of U.P. max prisons – never to be heard from again.
Plus the state has piled on the charges, that many of these inmates have no way to defend – so they will be in THE MDOC system forever.
So U.P. Breaking News continues our Red Flag Warning at U.P. prisons because even if the extensive problems were fixed overnight, it will take years to bring down the understandable mistrust and hatred.
