(Ishpeming, MI) – Firefighters responded to a fully engulfed mobile home fire in Ishpeming on Sunday night – and at least one person has been taken to the hospital after being found covered up by debris very close to the blaze.

The fire was reported about 7:35 p.m. ET Sunday night, April 8, 2018 in the Sunnyside Estates Mobile Home Park located at 728 North Lake Drive in Ishpeming, MI.

Usually needed at fires to refill air tanks, the Marquette County Rescue Squad Unit 131 left the scene around 9 p.m. and headed back to their quarters – meaning the fire was basically out.
The trailer located at lot 99 was apparently destroyed or heavily damaged in the fire.

A man at the scene “may be overwhelmed by smoke” and “could not get inside” his girlfriend’s mother’s home in hopes of saving the two women, a dispatcher radioed to responding firefighters and law enforcement.

However, that man has not been transported from the scene by ambulance to the hospital. It is unknown if he was being questioned by police or if he sought his own treatment.

Law enforcement responding to the scene were told that earlier in the day a male was removed from the residence as part of a domestic violence investigation.

The mobile home at Lot 99 was destroyed in the fire.

U.P. Breaking News has reviewed the police tapes involving a domestic dispute between a man and a woman that occurred in the same trailer at about 1:15 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon.
The female in the domestic dispute was allegedly “hopped up on Ritalin,” a dispatcher told responding officers.
Police arrived and it was agreed the man would leave the residence.

Police say the woman made suicidal comments within an hour of the fire.

She was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, and for the drugs and alcohol in her system. She was found unconscious near the fire scene – possibly in a garage and was “covered with stuff.”

The 46-year-old female was found very close to the fire. The woman was “found outside covered underneath a bunch of stuff.”

The woman was very groggy, yet responsive to painful stimuli. The victim did not have any obvious burns.
The fire remains under investigation.

——-

There was also another nearby structure fire about two hours earlier.

The Ishpeming Fire Department was called Sunday evening to a fire inside Apartment 7 at 715 Vine Street in Ishpeming, MI.

The occupants were cooking with grease – and that hot grease caught the top of the stove on fire and spread quickly to nearby kitchen cabinets.
In addition to the heavy smoke damage in the apartment, a lot of acrid smoke filled a second floor hallway.

Five people lived in the apartment including three children. Luckily, no one was injured. Ishpeming firefighters were assisted on the scene by Ishpeming Police.
The family will received aid from the Marquette County Pigs N’ Heat fire relief fund and the American Red Cross.

One very disturbing note, the battery had been removed from the smoke alarm. If you are in the same unsafe greasy boat – fix your fire alarm now!

Vicious strangling incident in Ishpeming – suspect wanted

(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – It was as if something was in the water, judging by the shear number of truly heinous assaults across the U.P. this weekend.

Here are only a few:

A man calls 911 early today saying he is running down the Northland Truck Trail with someone shooting at him , The trail is one of two ways to go on a dirt back-road between Dickinson County and Marquette County.
Outcome: We do not know, but lots of law enforcement was involved, can’t confirm possible arrest.

Man serious injured after being hit over the head with a guitar at his K.I. Sawyer home – girlfriend is suspect (arrest made).

Six-month-old baby in Chippewa County with a severely twist arm brought to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie (outcome we do not know, CPS and police investigating)

Two women were charged with home invasion – both from Escanaba area – but one of the assaults committed in Marquette County (see our other stories for names etc.)

A fraction of the other assaults included woman whose boyfriend threatened to cut her wrists, another man disabled his girlfriend’s car and kicked her, a drunk very disorderly at Bell Hospital, another intoxicated person threatening twice to start killing people and cops if the UPSET drug team would not help him.

Now to our wanted suspect in that strangling incident at about 7 a.m. Sunday that sent a 36-year-old woman to the hospital.

The victim reported “difficulty breathing” after the attempted strangulation in room #8 at the usually quiet Wonderland Motel in Ishpeming, MI. The victim was rushed to U.P. Health System – Bell. The suspect allegedly used a phone cord to strangle the victim.

Ishpeming ambulances now called U.P. Health System “west” (in Marquette paramedics called east) but the hospital is commonly known as Bell Hospital in Ishpeming.

The suspect is 22-year-old Chloe Jazmin Shumate – wanted for the Jan. 21, 2018 incident. Online records state she has lived in Ishpeming and Champion, MI.
Police called her “a person of interest” in the assault.

he fled the scene – and if you know the whereabouts of Chloe Shumate – it will be safer for all if she surrenders. Please Chloe surrender.

Tracking dogs from the Michigan State Police K-9 unit tried unsuccessfully to follow her scent for very far. The case is being handled by the Ishpeming Police Department – and who sent thanks to those who assisted – MSP K-9 unit, the Negaunee Police Department and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The Wonderland Motel is located along U.S.-41 but its official address is on Palms Avenue in Ishpeming.

Its urgent you call Ishpeming Police or 911 if you have any info on Chloe. Chloe please surrender.

Meth dealer back in trouble in Marquette County

Man who admitted running a meth lab in Marquette County is charged with violating probation – and prosecutors said if he did so it was off to prison

Eric miller 1.jpg

(Marquette, MI) – A 34-year-old Marquette County man, who pleaded guilty to running a Marquette area meth lab, was booked Friday night on a circuit court probation violation that could send him to prison.

In May 2016, Eric Scott Miller of Negaunee was sentenced to at least two years in prison – but in effect given probation and drug court after pleading guilty to operating a methamphetamine lab during. It is not clear by jail records whether this is a sentencing on the probation violation or a brand new charge – tho both lead to prison.

During his initial sentencing, Miller was promised by prosecutors he could plan on going to state prison if he violated the drug court rules that allow him to remain out of prison.
The meth crime happened during January 2016. He had less than a year on what was effectively a probated sentence – with one rule – keep your nose clean literally and figuratively. His supervised release date was May, 25, 2018.

Miller was arrested during a Jan. 2016 Sunday afternoon traffic stop on U.S.-41 near Lakeshore Drive by Ishpeming Police who spotted him with an expired license plate. Police found pseudoephedrine – a principal ingredient to make meth and other lab components. He was also charged with driving with no insurance and driving on a suspended license.
Its is not clear how Miller allegedly violated his probation – but he is in jail less than two weeks from his birthday. He was booked into the Marquette County Jail just before 11 p.m., Fri., Nov. 24, 2017.

(Ishpeming, MI) – The infestation and death grip of Crystal Methamphetamine on the Upper Peninsula is as strong as ever – however federal, state and local law enforcement is doing everything it can to stomp out meth labs.

The latest meth lad raid occurred about 7 p.m. tonight, Wed., Nov. 15, 2017 in the city of Ishpeming.

The Ishpeming Police department and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement team conducted a raid at 851 N. Pine St. near Lake Bancroft.

The Ishpeming Fire department was called out to stand by on the scene because of the highly volatile chemicals used to make meth.

Wearing protective gear, drug agents will clear out the meth lab – and it will be taken away for proper disposal.

No information on how many arrests or how much meth was confiscated.

As U.P. Winter House/Structure fires continue out of control – family of latest fire victim says no autopsy was ordered on the Doug Lintz – case closed – and that’s not good: And this as even more U.P. house/structure fires go unexplained tonight

NO AUTOPSY ORDERED IN FATAL FIRE!

OFFICIALS CAN SPIN THESE DEATHS – BUT CAN NOT DENY THEM

victim-loved-family-2

Why are so many U.P. deaths of all kinds not being thoroughly probed by MSP, fire officials and the fire marshal?

Family man Doug Lintz made Christmas dinner for loved ones just hours before his death

By Greg Peterson

(Iron River, MI) – The family of the latest Upper Peninsula elderly resident to die in a daylight fire is questioning why no autopsy was performed – and the victim is being remembered tonight as a caring family man who spent his final hours with those he loved – and was known for being an expert outdoorsman and taxidermist.

doug-lintz-1He even cooked Christmas dinner for loved one’s only hours before his death. This despite suffering from cancer.

60-year-old Douglas “Doug” Michael Lintz died on Monday afternoon in a fire that quickly swept through his home at 1119 N. River Avenue in Iron River, MI.

U.P. fire officials have not been owning up to all the blazes in a recent spate of strange fires – more than a dozen in three weeks – including one today in Skandia and another fire today in Iron River. We have no details about either blaze.

fire-victim-and-his-buck-back-in-the-day

Lintz’s longtime female friend Kristine “Kris” McNamara was not at his home when the fire broke out – but reportedly was there earlier in the day. She has her own residence.

Lintz was a self-employed taxidermist and talented at reloading of bullets and shotgun shells.

Lintz made Christmas dinner for family friend Alaina Seymour and her kids.

That family friend and neighbor, who has known the victim since she was 12 years old, could only watch in grief and horror as Mr. Lintz’s home burned in a fire of unknown origin.

doug-lintz-2doug-lintz-3“He started hunting and fishing at about 12 or 13,” his brother said tonight. “At 13 years old, he was professionally employed by Hyde and Kidd of Utica, MI” – a business known as a hunting and fishing taxidermy shop. The store also included everything that Lintz loved – guns, ammo, bows, plus fishing gear and and related stuff.

Apparently the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and local fire officials did not want an autopsy performed.

“The undertaker picked him up at the house and was going to the funeral home,”his brother said. “I was dumbfounded! No autopsy!”

The fire chief told family “they probably will never know the cause due to water damage and freezing,” Lintz said about his brother’s tragedy.

Lintz’s father’s side of the family has Upper Peninsula roots.

“Doug’s wish was to be cremated without funeral or fuss,” according to his brother Lyn Lintz. “He will be going to Sidnaw after cremation.”

It is one of over a dozen U.P. house fires in recent weeks documented by U.P. Breaking News – but fire officials in several jurisdictions are refusing comment. The death of Mr. Lintz was preceded by two elderly residents who died recently in a daylight fire at their home in Fulton,. MI in the Copper Country in Keweenaw County.
