(Republic, MI) – Michigan State Police Thursday morning were searching for an alleged drunken minor behind the wheel – who clipped a utility pole in Republic, allegedly fled the scene leaving behind blood, then was accused of taking another vehicle.

The latest incident happened in Republic, MI just after 8 a.m. ET this morning, Thursday, March 15, 2018. The suspect was believed apprehended.

A 17-year-old Republic youth allegedly crashed a vehicle into a utility pole – sheering off that pole and causing a power-outage that make take four-hours to repair – not far from the Republic-Michigamme School on Maple St.

Saying power crews estimate it will take four hours to re-energize the lines and repair the pole, a MSP trooper described the power outage area to a dispatcher as:

“From the M-95 and County Road 601 intersection to Hawks Drive; and on Hawks Drive from the school to roughly the bridge will be shutdown.”

Known as Hawks Drive to some, the road goes by several names including CR L.E.

It was the second time in less than six hours that mayhem was reported on the highways and byways of Marquette County.

About 2:40 a.m. today, a man who had allegedly pulled off a home invasion – and allegedly crashed a mini-van in Marquette into two guardrails on Wright Street – and sped off at high speed on just the rims causing a huge shower of sparks – eventually abandoning the vehicle in Trowbridge Park:

While inspecting the abandoned trashed vehicle, troopers became concerned that someone was injured in the crash.

“There is blood in vehicle,” a trooper radioed from the scene.

Shortly after the crash, 911 received reports the 17-year-old suspect was passed out in an allegedly stolen vehicle on the back road (Cut-Across Road) between the Greenwood Reservoir and Republic.

U.P. Breaking News has the suspect’s name, however since it appears clear that criminal charges will be filed – we are withholding his identity at this time. In addition, he allegedly was said to have been making suicidal comments.

(Marquette, MI) – “The Man in the White Flannel Shirt” was busted in a predawn foot chase after he allegedly caused lots of traffic havoc through the cold streets of Marquette, MI on this Mid-March Thursday morning.
Police stated they were taking the suspect to the Marquette County Jail – tentatively identified as Michael Carter.
Captured in the area of Waldo Street, the Marquette manhunt for the suspect ended about 4:15 a.m. ET this morning, Thursday, March 15, 2018.

The driver allegedly resisted arrest after being chased on foot by police officers after apparently trying to hide in the area. He was captured about a block or two from where he had abandoned his light blue minivan – with its rims still red hot. The search for other damage and witnesses continues.

The allegedly intoxicated hit-and-run driver caused a lot of havoc early today on the roads (riding on rims) in Marquette at a high rate of speed. For a while he was simply know as the man in the white flannel shirt.

It started about 3:40 a.m. ET this morning as a police BOLO for a “reckless vehicle.”
“It’s on its on rims (traveling) at a high rate of speed through town,” officers were advised a dispatcher at Marquette County Central Dispatch 911.
“The rims are sparking,” the dispatcher said.
A witness said the man was driving on rim that was showering sparking as he drove. The witness apparently called 911 because she feared the man was going to cause an accident.
The minivan was found abandoned in Trowbridge Park at Granite Street and Summit St. – and the man fled wearing that white flannel shirt.
Witnesses said he fled then returned to the scene – and fled again.

Meanwhile the original accident site became clear after an unsuspecting motorist ran over a pile of debris on Wright Street that was left behind by the wrecked mini-van.

Fortunately the motorist’s blue Dodge Avenger was not damaged by the debris.
Police investigating the report by the motorist found additional debris and two damaged guardrails.

“The are a couple of guard rails damaged on both sides of the road (Wright Street),” and officer radioed. Apparently the incident started on the Wright St. hill – in a curve – with the minivan crashing into the guardrails at a high rate of speed.
An officer on the scene said evidence showed the vehicle “bounced” from one side of the Wright Street and back across.

After the initial hit to a guardrail, the vehicle “shot across the road to the other side” hitting another guardrail, an officer radioed to others with the vehicle on Summit Street.

Audio tapes of Michigan State Police, Chippewa County Sheriffs department, Chippewa EMS and fire during dramatic high speed chase and chainsaw vs gun battle that played out yesterday in western Chippewa County in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. been a strange year as cops almost never shoot anybody up here but have shot three this fall/winter including two men in their homes during well-being check.

This MSP trooper was apparently threatened with a chainsaw as chase ended with 100 MPH crash. on M-28.

The story picks up as Josh exits parents home to talk with police but instead – chase is on.

U.P Breaking News continues to analyze other audio of the chase/shooting

PREAMBLE before chase:

At approximately Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and MSP were dispatched to an address on Hungry Hollow Road for a guy named Josh that had recently been released from rehab where he had undergone treatment for meth.

He had smashed into several cars with his white Dodge truck. There was a weapon involved, as he was highly agitated and unstable. Dispatch was attempting to get further information.

Before police arrived it was determined, suspect Josh, was at his parents house and had smashed into their vehicles with his truck.

The weapon involved was a gun that his father was threatening him with, to leave the property.

Josh have smashed some windows on the home. Josh left before the police arrived and the father put his gun away.

But allegedly he was armed with a running chainsaw at end of high speed chase.

The Cool Hand Luke Tapes

Above is the nerve-racking audio tape of the high speed chase, ramming, shooting, and EMS – all in Chippewa County, Michigan.

The tapes will be released in next half an hour or less.

Trust me – you haven’t heard anything like it – cops do a great job – and this poor man – not sure his problem and his future is bleak.

Earlier in the day – he had been involved in several hit and run accidents – and ended up at his parents home on Hungry Hollow Road.

The tape picks up about the time police think the suspect “Josh” is about to come out of the home and talk with them.

Then the chase is on – first slow – then fast – then crazy apparently with a chainsaw.

(Copper City, MI) -Another power pole split in half by a driver leaving a bar – becoming a familiar Upper Peninsula event.

But it’s no joke if your home is plunged into the dark – especially during cold and windy weather. The Upper Peninsula Power Company was notified and working replacing the pole and turning power back on for residents.

Police quickly found a black pickup truck that crashed into a power pole at the Drift Inn bar in Copper City. The hit and run wreck was reported by bar employees who call police about 2:27 a.m. today – Sat., Nov. 12, 2016.

The power pole was split in half near the front of the Drift-Inn Bar in Copper City, MI. Officials have found the wrecked 2010  Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in Phillipsville Location.

Much of the area is reported without power. There is conflicting information on whether the driver was a male or female. One report said a Calumet woman was supposed to drive the man to his nearby home in Phillips due to being intoxicated.

The heavily damaged pickup has been found  at a home on 2nd Street in Allouez, MI/Phillipsville Location, MI.

The truck was apparently found in a driveway that is behind the “Last Place on Earth” Antique Store. The “Last Place on Earth” is a perfect and common moniker for this area of the Keweenaw Peninsula – a wind gust away from Lake Superior and now the Gales of November.

christian-champion-fb-1(Gwinn/K.I. Sawyer) -A 21 year old K.I. Sawyer man is jailed pending possible numerous charges that are expected to be filed after an alleged drunken hit and run incident that took down utility poles in Forsyth Township and caused some Gwinn and K.I. Sawyer residents to huddle their way through a long morning without heat and power.

Forsyth Township firefighters spend several hours on the scene as did UPPCO crews who were still worked all night.

Several sources have identified the suspect as Christian James Champion, 21, of Invader St., Sawyer. He is being held in the Marquette County Jail.

Champion allegedly blew three times the normal legal limit for alcohol under Michigan law, according to reports. He apparently surrendered without incident. Police followed the man as he was was taken by ambulance to U.P. Health System – Marquette to be treated for minor injuries.
He was then transferred to the Marquette County Jail by Forsyth Township Police.

Numerous utility poles, mailboxes and a telephone box – between Mustang Street and Jupiter Street – were damaged – or taken down – in this morning’s hit and run incident.

A suspect was found nearby on the 5oo block of Invader Street. An ambulance was called to treat the driver – who is likely facing numerous charges. Injuries were not thought to be serious. Just what caused the incident is unclear – although there was at least one unconfirmed report that his mother stated their had been a death in the family. In fairness, a U.P. Breaking News review of the suspect’s Facebook page shows a much kinder side of the man.

It reportedly started on Jupiter St. when a pole was snapped in half  – coming down transformer and all – plus other damage. UPPCO was called to the scene but clean up could take hours.

In fact, fire officials on the scene said UPPCO was going to have a long night ahead of them. At least, the second power pole of the night was snapped.

“The top of pole is snapped off – and people who can not get in their homes,” said a stunned fire official while surveying the damage – and hoping to give power crews a head’s up.

UPPCO has “a lot more work than they know of now – I think,” he said.

Damage was reported on several streets.

Within 10 minutes of the original call, the badly damaged vehicle was spotted at – or near – 506 Hustler St. The suspect vehicle was reported as a 4-doot purple car – that would likely have been easy to see without the damage. The car was identified by witnesses as an older Oldsmobile Alero.

The Forsyth Township Police Department is being assisted by several other agencies. The Forsyth Township Fire Department is assisting on scene.
