The case was investigated by the Menominee Tribal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The indictment was returned on Jan. 3, 2018.

The federal charges were filed in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. The federal prosecutor is U.S. Attorney Gregory Haanstad and Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew J. Maier.
