Two story home in Laurium, Mi ablaze; Victims apparently escape fire that started on second floor

Firefighters brave cold temps as blaze is burning out of control at two-story Laurium, MI home

(Laurium, MI) – Firefighters are battling an early morning house fire in Houghton County
The fire was reported just before 1:45 a.m. this morning, Wed., Dec. 13, 2017.

The two-story house fire is at 118 Osceola Street in Laurium , MI.

“Heavy fire blowing out the front (of the home) and lots of smoke coming out of the roof, said one emergency official arriving on the scene.
“The second floor is fully involved,” a dispatcher told firefighters.

“Everyone is out of the building we are paging fire now,” a dispatcher told Houghton County law enforcement headed to the scene of the fire.

The Laurium Volunteer Fire Department is fighting the fire and seeking other volunteers to respond to the fire and man the station.

The Calumet Village Township Volunteer Fire Department was also called to assist.

Police “on scene report is totally involved on the second floor,” the dispatcher told Calumet Township fire officials.

“Calumet Village Fire Department in Laurium you are being requested for mutual aid,” a dispatcher stated.

“Tell them (Calumet Township firefighters) that its a priority – we need them,” said a fire official on the scene.

The area of 1st Street and Osceola Street in Laurium is blocked by emergency officials.
It is believed that the family managed to escape the home. No names have been released.
“Set up you aerial burst,” one fire official said. “Send the water as soon as you can.”
