Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to rush to the ER about 3 a.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 because one of the doctors had been assaulted.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, U.P. Breaking News reported that a man – wearing nothing but underwear despite the freezing weather – drove his vehicle up to the hospital and caused in incident in the ambulance bay at War Memorial.

It all began about 2:45 a.m. today – when the now suspect – was an assault victim.

Today’s incident began when police were called to the corner of Ashmun Street and E. Spruce St. for an intoxicated woman who had been assaulted and was laying on the sidewalk.

The male suspect who hit the woman fled on foot down Ashmun St. and she and another witness was not able to give them a good description – possibly wearing a gray sweatshirt.

Police were called by someone who reported:
“She saw male hit a female,” the dispatcher said.

Soo Fire and EMS responded to help the woman but she refused to get in the ambulance and apparently walked the two blocks to War Memorial Hospital.

“She is refusing (treatment/transport) and is very uncooperative,” said a paramedic on the scene.

The woman – who names has not been released – then allegedly assaulted ER staff. The ER call came into 911 about 3 a.m. That’s when the alarm for police went out to get to the hospital for an assault.

“You guys are needed down at the ER,” a dispatcher told police officers. “The ER just called saying the doctor is requesting law enforcement to press charges.”

The woman has been taken to the Chippewa County Jail.
