MITW nation member arraigned today for allegedly trying to force to young girls to have oral sex

(Green Bay, WI) – A member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin nation was arraigned today in federal court in Green Bay on charges of trying to have sex with two young girls.

24-year-old Ricki A. Mahkimetas, Jr. of Keshena, WI pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of “aggravated sexual abuse” before U.S. District Court Judge James R. Sickel.
The hearing lasted only seven minutes.
If convicted, each of the charges could send Mahkimetas to federal prison for life – with a minimum mandatory sentence of 30 years in prison.
He was ordered to remain in jail – now under the custody of tribal officials.

Court dates for motions and other business were set today by U.S. Magistrate Judge Nancy Joseph. U.S. Public Defender Thomas E. Phillip was appointed to defend Mahkimetas. The U.S. Probation Officer assigned to the case is Mitchell Faara.
Mahkimetas was indicted by a federal grand jury on Dec. 19, 2017 on a two count indictment that charges him with trying to force sex between himself and two children this year and last. The prepubescent victims are identified as “Minor Female A” and “Minor Female B.” Mahkimetas is accused of trying to force both young girls to perform oral sex on him.
On August 17, 2017, Mahkimetas allegedly “did knowingly attempt to engage in a sexual act with Minor Female A. a child who had not attained the age of 12 years old,” the indictment states. Mahkimetas is accused of trying to force “attempted contact between his penis and Minor Female A’s mouth,” the indictment states.
On March 17, 2016, Mahkimetas “did knowingly engage in a sexual act with Minor Female B, who had not attained the age of 12 years,” the indictment states.
Mahkimetas allegedly tried to force “contact between his penis and Minor Female B’s mouth,” the indictment charges.
The arrest of Mahkimetas was due to the investigative efforts of the Menominee Tribal Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from Willow Tree Cornerstone Child Advocacy Center in Green Bay.
The federal prosecutor is U.S. Attorney Gregory J. Haanstad, representing the North Eastern District of Wisconsin.
