Fire has basically destroyed a residence on Sugar Island and additional water is needed.
Sugar Island firefighters are having a hard time pumping water of a creek.
Moments ago, the Dafter Township Volunteer Fire Department was paged for a tanker truck that will be transferred by the ferry.
The blaze is at 671 E. McKerchie Road on Sugar Island.

Predawn Residential Fire on Sugar Island, MI

(Sugar Island, MI) – Extra firefighters are being called for a predawn house fire on Sugar Island.
The ferry is helping bring manpower and additional tanker trucks to the fire.
The fir was reported about 7 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 15, 2017.
The fire is said to be at a home on McKerchie Road in Sugar Island, MI. One dispatch refereed to a “lane.”
Sugar Island Township Volunteer Fire Department personnel on the mainland are being brought over on the ferry.
In addition, the Sault Township Volunteer Fire department has been called for mutual aid.
7 a.m weather on Sugar Island was 17 degrees with snow showers and a light wind
No one is believed to be in the residence. No Names have been released.
Few details are know – however Sugar Island firefighters requested extra manpower and a tanker from the mainland.
