(Gwinn, MI) – A Hell, MI native was arrested allegedly trying to flee a Gwinn, MI trailer fire that cops say was a meth lab at a Forsyth Township mobile home park.

31-year-old Brad Michael Overly, who apparently hasn’t lived in Gwinn for too long, was arrested following the mobile home fire reported at about 6:35 p.m. ET Wednesday night, March 7, 2018. Overly’s Facebook page states he is a native of Hell, MI and Clare, MI. Recent Facebook posts by overly have become increasingly dark with “wanted dead or alive” graphics, skulls and more.

The first police on the scene reported smoke coming from the trailer at 55 East Riling Street Lot 27 in Gwinn – and firefighters were warned to beware of meth components. Police busted Overly as he tried to flee the scene in his car.

UPSET LOGO

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team was called to the scene to help dispose of the toxic chemicals.

Numerous Gwinn residents have been arrested this year – and more busted are expected – as meth is running rampant in Gwinn, K.I. Sawyer and the surrounding area. This is the second fire this year involving Gwinn residents that allegedly involve meth cooking.

The jailed Overly is charged with the 20-year felony operating/maintaining laboratory involving methamphetamine.
Assisting on the scene were the Forsyth Township Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue Squad 131.

In a bizarre irony, the costly cleaning up of each U.P. Meth lab drains valuable money the UPSET team and its law enforcement partners could be put back into the fight to root out an extremely addictive epidemic that has destroyed thousands of U.P. lives.

Meth, heroin, opioids, fentanyl and other extremely addictive drugs have devastated many U.P. homes.

In many cases, its the old story of bad things happening to otherwise good people – who get in over their heads in an instant. Then however, are the meth dealers who try to get everyone hooked for their own profit.

(Wells Township/Gwinn, Michigan) – Two methamphetamine suspects were critically burned late Thursday while allegedly cooking the drug at a camp in Wells Township – and then drove themselves to a Gwinn apartment to seek help.

Michigan State Police have only released half of the story – and U.P. Breaking News has been waiting for more info to update the story but has decided to post what we know.

URGENT – U.P. Breaking News Bulletin – 1-19-18 5:55 p.m. ET – Despite the odds, and lack of confirmation – we believe there were two bad structure fires late Thursday in two U.P. Wells Townships. The fires were reported within minutes of each other although there is a conflicting details on which was first.
Both fires happened just after 11 p.m. ET
One blaze destroyed at home on J Road in Escanaba Township t the Wells Township line (Delta County) that involves numerous fire agencies. U.P. Breaking News heard reports of a frozen hydrant.
Meanwhile – the other was this terrible meth-related blaze that destroyed a camp in Wells Township in south Marquette County and critically burned two people who drove themselves to a Gwinn apartment complex to summon help. Wish fire officials would confirm – but we do believe it to be two fires.

The camp that burned is located at 58820 County Road 426 in Wells Township, MI.

The meth suspects then showed up on the doorstep of a man’s apartment at 25 N. Pearce Street in Gwinn. The stove at the camp – apparently exploded while the injured couple were allegedly cooking meth.

According to several sources, the victims/suspects are 36-year-old James Mallon and his wife 40-year old Danica Mallon. Both were recently arrested following an UPSET meth raid at their home in Little Lake, MI.

They were treated at U.P. Health System-Marquette and due to the massive burns were flown to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment.

A Gwinn man – who said the victims came to his apartment building, says he knows the couple’s alleged reputation – and they know other people in the apartment complex.

“Meth is worse than cancer,” said father of two Justin Streeter – saying he is in no way involved in meth or with the suspects.

“I had nothing to do with them or the fire,” Streeter said, though he admits knowing what they look like – adding they frequent the apartment building visiting other residents.

Streeter said there is a meth epidemic that has destroyed many Forsyth Township families. He implicitly denied being friends with the Mallons but said he is familiar with them – adding they are friends with many people who live in the apartment building.

Streeter said he heard James Mallon yelling for help in the hallway – and opened his door like he would for anyone who is in trouble and needs an ambulance.”

“He said his wife was badly burned … the skin was dripping off ,” Streeter told U.P. Breaking News.

Streeter said he’s been called by friends and family asking if he is involved in meth – or with the fire that destroyed the camp in Wells Township at the Escanaba Township line.

“I do not do meth,” Streeter said – adding that he’s thinks meth has reached “epidemic” proportions in the Gwinn area and hopes something will be done about the problem.

Justin Streeter

Justin Streeter of Gwinn claimed the suspects came to his door after the fire.

“The people were burnt due” to the fire at the camp “they then came to Gwinn looking for help and someone to call an ambulance.”

“I was the one to call 911 and have EMTs come to my house in Gwinn,” Streeter said in an angry post to U.P. Breaking News on Facebook.

As U.P. Winter House/Structure fires continue out of control – family of latest fire victim says no autopsy was ordered on the Doug Lintz – case closed – and that’s not good: And this as even more U.P. house/structure fires go unexplained tonight

NO AUTOPSY ORDERED IN FATAL FIRE!

OFFICIALS CAN SPIN THESE DEATHS – BUT CAN NOT DENY THEM

victim-loved-family-2

Why are so many U.P. deaths of all kinds not being thoroughly probed by MSP, fire officials and the fire marshal?

Family man Doug Lintz made Christmas dinner for loved ones just hours before his death

U.P. Breaking News

(Iron River, MI) – The family of the latest Upper Peninsula elderly resident to die in a daylight fire is questioning why no autopsy was performed – and the victim is being remembered tonight as a caring family man who spent his final hours with those he loved – and was known for being an expert outdoorsman and taxidermist.

doug-lintz-1He even cooked Christmas dinner for loved one’s only hours before his death. This despite suffering from cancer.

60-year-old Douglas “Doug” Michael Lintz died on Monday afternoon in a fire that quickly swept through his home at 1119 N. River Avenue in Iron River, MI.

U.P. fire officials have not been owning up to all the blazes in a recent spate of strange fires – more than a dozen in three weeks – including one today in Skandia and another fire today in Iron River. We have no details about either blaze.

fire-victim-and-his-buck-back-in-the-day

Lintz’s longtime female friend Kristine “Kris” McNamara was not at his home when the fire broke out – but reportedly was there earlier in the day. She has her own residence.

Lintz was a self-employed taxidermist and talented at reloading of bullets and shotgun shells.

Lintz made Christmas dinner for family friend Alaina Seymour and her kids.

That family friend and neighbor, who has known the victim since she was 12 years old, could only watch in grief and horror as Mr. Lintz’s home burned in a fire of unknown origin.

doug-lintz-2doug-lintz-3“He started hunting and fishing at about 12 or 13,” his brother said tonight. “At 13 years old, he was professionally employed by Hyde and Kidd of Utica, MI” – a business known as a hunting and fishing taxidermy shop. The store also included everything that Lintz loved – guns, ammo, bows, plus fishing gear and and related stuff.

Apparently the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and local fire officials did not want an autopsy performed.

“The undertaker picked him up at the house and was going to the funeral home,”his brother said. “I was dumbfounded! No autopsy!”

The fire chief told family “they probably will never know the cause due to water damage and freezing,” Lintz said about his brother’s tragedy.

Lintz’s father’s side of the family has Upper Peninsula roots.

“Doug’s wish was to be cremated without funeral or fuss,” according to his brother Lyn Lintz. “He will be going to Sidnaw after cremation.”

It is one of over a dozen U.P. house fires in recent weeks documented by U.P. Breaking News – but fire officials in several jurisdictions are refusing comment. The death of Mr. Lintz was preceded by two elderly residents who died recently in a daylight fire at their home in Fulton,. MI in the Copper Country in Keweenaw County.

Stop hiding facts about recent fires.

Blaming the evil press is cop out – especially when most of the U.P. news media is basically docile

doug-lintz-1Sadly this comes in the wake of the most recent death – 60-year-old Douglas Michael Lintz (born 1956) – who died in his home on Monday afternoon at 1119 N. River Avenue in Iron River, MI.

Why has nothing been said about all the fires – and all the elderly deaths?

Fire officials only released the victim’s name today – and one newspaper speculated there might be more than one victim – a female.

We still do not know officially what happened to the female occupant of the home.

Douglas Michael Lintz, 60, was a native of Utica, Michigan – and graduated from Utica High School in 1974, according to his Facebook page.

We tried – and are trying – to get photos of all involved – but none existed of the couple in Fulton in Copper Country.

What happened to the other occupant of the home. Who else was home at the time?

Has she been given a place to stay. What is happening? Her name is reportedly Kristine McNamara – and we have reached out to six family members but none have said anything about her status. Would be glad to run info on a fundraiser.

Sometimes the media fears the public doesn’t understand these are real humans unless you see a photo – not a quick blip of 15 seconds on TV news.

There have been so many recent major structure and other fires in Schoolcraft County – no info released – that we have lost count.

Too many people have died and too many homes have burned in past month for the U.P. Firefighters to do their usual run and hide. U.P. Breaking News has immense respect for firefighters and law enforcement – but a lot of blood is now at both of their doorsteps.

Went to the U.P. Firefighter’s Association webpage – and it had not been updated in a long time.
http://u.p.firefighter.tripod.com/

Maybe the shootings and the fires were not the fault of those officials – but it still lands smack in their laps especially when it gets unacceptably high.

We suspect poverty is behind a lot of these goings on – and how state budget cuts have trashed the system from top to bottom like blood letting.

In some TV newsrooms it is a joke – go do the annual smoke detector and batteries story. That can not be the only answer to this horrendous turn of events.

Are the victim’s poverty stricken – have issues not addressed by healthcare – what. What safety precautions were in place or not? If the U.P. Firefighters Association refuses to answer this – then shame on these officials – for all future blood is directly on your hands. You need to try and act like you care more than has been shown. The media is not the enemy – that is old-fashioned thinking.

No more elderly should burn to death (or smoke inhalation) in their homes – especially in broad daylight – without some kind of message from firefighters. There could be many reasons that fire departments do not interact with media (sometimes even the DNR officials act like children with media – only want us to get pictures days later) – but it is high time the U.P. Firefighters Association started to become more relevant.

I have also heard equipment is a big issue – after much was spent on across the trail mammoth big vehicles. How many firefighters are there actively volunteering or working in the U.P.

What are the names of the fire chiefs of each and every department?

Why is information not being released?

Who is to blame for this drastic oversight of public protection (some modern departments would consider it a dereliction of duty)?

What are their home and cell numbers – and lets work out something where info can be reported to a central source and proactively given to the media!

Listen I get it – many Yoopers like to be treated like mushrooms or act like the media is so terrible.

But now that three elderly are dead – we are calling your hand over false provincialism with gatekeepers thinking they are Gods.

Check your smoke detector batteries is not going to get it this time. Why were these elderly trapped – specifically. Why did the fires start – really – not just some woodstove thing.

I can only hope that the U.P. firefighters care enough they can address these fires without some kind of white wash.

There have been too many fires in past month or so – disgusting that the public is not being warned – and if it is different reasons – then the firefighters association should take five minutes and tell us..

About 80 percent of the U.P. serious house fires never get reported by the media.

Whether its intentional due to insurance costs/fire ratings – or for many other reasons like media not listening to scanner, and the fire chiefs (for whatever reasons) do not tell the media and do not return calls. Then some chief’s will call media – but want to play coy – and not say the name of the occupant/owner – even if no injuries.

The U.P. media is very docile compared to the rest of the country – so you can not claim you are trying to protect victims from the menacing media.

(every other fire department in the U.S. releases this basic info – who, what, when, where, why – how). I think with all the death and destruction this year – the U.P. Firefighter’s Association needs to step up.

And let’s not just remind folks about smoke detectors – that are crucial – but have never had a landlord provide me with an easy one to change batteries.

christian-champion-fb-1(Gwinn/K.I. Sawyer) -A 21 year old K.I. Sawyer man is jailed pending possible numerous charges that are expected to be filed after an alleged drunken hit and run incident that took down utility poles in Forsyth Township and caused some Gwinn and K.I. Sawyer residents to huddle their way through a long morning without heat and power.

Forsyth Township firefighters spend several hours on the scene as did UPPCO crews who were still worked all night.

Several sources have identified the suspect as Christian James Champion, 21, of Invader St., Sawyer. He is being held in the Marquette County Jail.

Champion allegedly blew three times the normal legal limit for alcohol under Michigan law, according to reports. He apparently surrendered without incident. Police followed the man as he was was taken by ambulance to U.P. Health System – Marquette to be treated for minor injuries.
He was then transferred to the Marquette County Jail by Forsyth Township Police.

Numerous utility poles, mailboxes and a telephone box – between Mustang Street and Jupiter Street – were damaged – or taken down – in this morning’s hit and run incident.

A suspect was found nearby on the 5oo block of Invader Street. An ambulance was called to treat the driver – who is likely facing numerous charges. Injuries were not thought to be serious. Just what caused the incident is unclear – although there was at least one unconfirmed report that his mother stated their had been a death in the family. In fairness, a U.P. Breaking News review of the suspect’s Facebook page shows a much kinder side of the man.

It reportedly started on Jupiter St. when a pole was snapped in half  – coming down transformer and all – plus other damage. UPPCO was called to the scene but clean up could take hours.

In fact, fire officials on the scene said UPPCO was going to have a long night ahead of them. At least, the second power pole of the night was snapped.

“The top of pole is snapped off – and people who can not get in their homes,” said a stunned fire official while surveying the damage – and hoping to give power crews a head’s up.

UPPCO has “a lot more work than they know of now – I think,” he said.

Damage was reported on several streets.

Within 10 minutes of the original call, the badly damaged vehicle was spotted at – or near – 506 Hustler St. The suspect vehicle was reported as a 4-doot purple car – that would likely have been easy to see without the damage. The car was identified by witnesses as an older Oldsmobile Alero.

The Forsyth Township Police Department is being assisted by several other agencies. The Forsyth Township Fire Department is assisting on scene.

10-17-16 10:19 a.m.

The severe storms have caused routine calls for U.P. fire departments – until now – but likely all is OK.  Storms that rolled across the U.P. have mainly localized street flooding.

However, we just heard a report that the fire department has been sent to an eastern U.P. Michigan State Police Post – that is also connected to or shares space with the Michigan DNR.

We think it is Post 83 – St. Ignace but have decided not to bother officials since it sounds busy.
Its apparently has affected power.
If it warrants an update, we will pass it along.
Below is radar when report came in.

It appears – Detour Fire was dispatched – but is being told to have extra units stand by at their fire dept.

Also – a non emergency run for Chocolay Township Police this morning as a homeowner on Cherry Creek Rd. reported a lightening strike – no fire or smoke – just electrical small in air and wanted to be safe.
Plus we have heard calls for trees on power lines – plus a transformer fire on M-133.

U.P. Breaking News Traffic Advisory and Public Safety Advisory 10-15-16 11:40 a.m:

The DNR is headed to the Big Lake State Park Campground in Baraga County near L’Anse, MI:

Report: Two vehicles stuck “beyond” the boat launch –  unclear exactly what is happening – but on dirt or water – sounds like its going to be blocked.

Also – There have been numerous vehicle-deer accidents in past 24 hours – and recently – and even though its is an annual U.P. deer fall rut/hunters in the woods issue – it is dangerous and we urge every who doesn’t need to rush – to take extra time especially dusk, dawn and overnight but all hours beware.

Also – high winds continue causing tree, limbs and power line/utility issues – but reports have slowed in recent hours – and even one report early today of a tree belonging to the hospital in Mqt. taking down a neighbor’s fence.

(Hurley, WI) – For the second time this weekend, an Upper Peninsula hospital was called on to treat a victim from a serious off-road-vehicle accident.

Another Important U.P. Breaking News Traffic Advisory 10-7-16 11:20 p.m.
In the past two weeks, we have noticed a big spike in car/deer accidents across the U.P. – at least two tonight including one was just reported on U.S. 2.
Remember its not the deer you see – its the one following it. Be extra cautious and aware – slow down if your are not in a hurry especially from dusk to dawn. But really all day.
Many Reasons:
These colder temps will trigger even more mating behavior plus with hunters now in the woods for various species – many deer are moving. Plus those setting up blinds for the Nov 15 opener.
As we reported a few weeks ago, moose are also on the move and pose a danger to drivers.
All an irony –  as the U.P. deer herd has decimated by state mismanagement – and is now estimated at less than 80,000 deer. Plus the wasting disease has been a huge issue in Wisconsin and across the Lower Peninsula – again from bad practices.

URGENT – URGENT:

Three other injuries not as serious.

Under Control: Sunday noon-hour fully engulfed fire reported in housing at the former K.I. Sawyer AFB in Marquette County, MI; No Injuries reported

(K.I. Sawyer, Michigan) – A “fully engulfed” residential fire has apparently been brought under control not long after it reported about 12:40 p.m. (today) Sun., Aug. 24, 2014 at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.

The blaze was reported in former base housing – now apartment rentals – on the 300 block of Commando St.

See Google street view and maps below:

Fortunately, initial reports indicated everyone was out of the residence – and so far no injuries reported.

The blaze is being battled by the Forsyth Township Volunteer Fire Department – with assistance from police agencies.

The Marquette County Rescue Squad Unit 131 was dispatched to the scene but then canceled indicating everything was under control. When sent to home fires, Rescue 131 usually helps with refilling firefighter air-packs or lighting).

Please stay clear of the area until emergency crews have left.
