(Marquette, MI) – A Little Lake man severely burned along with his with his wife in a alleged meth explosion at a camp was arrested this morning on numerous charges of “dangerous drugs.”

36-year-old James David Mallon arrested just before 10 a.m. this morning, Mon., April 30, 2018 on a five-count felony warrant issued by the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post.

The charges against Mallon include operating and maintaining a meth lab, possession of methamphetamine, second-degree home invasion and vehicle theft/unlawfully driving away an automobile.

Mallon was released from the hospital, and whether his wife is still hospitalized is not known. Mallon and his wife Danica were seriously burned on Thursday, January 18, 2018.

The two methamphetamine suspects were critically burned in mid-January 2018 while allegedly cooking the drug at a camp in Wells Township – and then drove themselves to a Gwinn apartment to seek help.

A $250,000 bond for Mallon is set for all five counts.

The camp that burned is located at 58820 County Road 426 in Wells Township, MI.
The meth suspects then showed up on the doorstep of a man’s apartment at 25 N. Pearce Street in Gwinn. The stove at the camp apparently exploded while the injured couple were allegedly cooking meth.

James Mallon and his wife 40-year old Danica Lynn Mallon were also arrested in early December (month before the explosion) following an UPSET meth raid at their home in Little Lake, MI.

They were treated at U.P. Health System-Marquette and due to the massive burns were flown to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment.

Mallon and his friends and family have attacked U.P. Breaking News as we were the only media with guts to report meth was involved in the explosion. Mallon blamed explosion a stove defect.

Meth Mess: Methamphetamine Components littered in Marquette County; Hurley, WI man hospitalized in Ironwood after meth lab raid

(Marquette, MI) – A Wisconsin man was taken to an Ironwood, MI hospital after an apparent meth lab bust at his home south of Hurley, WI – plus meth components found in Marquette County near Skandia, MI.

About 8:30 a.m. Central Time, police requested an ambulance at 7924N Pleasant Lake Road for a man having a panic attack following an apparent meth lab bust.

The 39-year-old man with a history of stroke was taken from the scene to the Aspirus Grand View Ironwood Hospital

An officer one the scene requested a K-9 unit due to a meth lab. The officer said he needed to know if another agency “whether they have a dog that is able to assist or not.”

“Can you send me a picture of the suspected lad,” an officer asked another who was scrambling his communication – often a technique used by the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team (GIANT) during drug raids.

“Is there any liquid in it,” the officer asked.

Meanwhile in Marquette County, the discovery of meth components Sunday afternoon led to the notification of the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET).

The incident was reported about 1:20 p.m. ET today, Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were sent to near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Kunde Road in Skandia, MI.

Kunde Road is also known as County Road TA.

“We do have meth components here,” radioed a Michigan State Police trooper to Marquette County Central Dispatch.

“Its on the east side of the roadway about 150 feet south of the Chocolay Township line,” the trooper  said.

(Marquette, MI) – High bonds have been set for three people who remain jailed in Marquette, MI this morning after being busted on meth distribution and operating a drug house charges.

28-year-old Ebonie Latrice Burns of Marquette, MI was booked into the Marquette County Jail early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2018.
Burns is charged with the delivery and manufacture of methamphetamine.
Jail records do not state a bond for Burns.

Burns attended Northern Michigan University, according to her Facebook page.
Burns made the big news in 2016 when she was arrested in Marquette for an felonious assault in the parking lot of the Admiral gas Station (scroll down for details).

44-year-old Bradley Joseph Hancock of Muskegon, MI was booked late Tuesday night and is being held on a $300,000 bond.
Hancock is charged with the delivery and manufacture of meth, possession of meth, and possession of a firearm (felony firearms charge).
Hancock has online addresses listed in Muskegon, MI and Daytona Beach, FL.

42-year-old Kareen Shanton Robertson of Muskgeon, MI was booked late Tuesday night and is being held on a $110,000 bond.
Robertson is charged with the delivery and manufacture of crystal meth and maintaining a drug house.
Robertson has prior addresses in Grand Rapids and several cities in Arizona.

On March 14, 2016, Burns made the news after confessing she was part of a late night violent attack of two people in the parking lot of the Admiral Gas Station on W. Washington Street in Marquette.

Marquette Police responded to the scene but the victim and suspects had left.
An investigation lead to the discovery of two people who were attacked by a pool cue and a make-shift bat – and treated and released from the Marquette hospital..
Charged with felonious assault were Ebonie Burns and her companion then 38-year-old Kowayne Terrelle Burns of Marquette.

Ebonie Burns pleaded guilty the next month to assault with dangerous weapon (felonious assault) – and was sentenced to one-year-in jail – with her sentence suspended/delayed with credit for the short time served.
Burns was on probation until March 2017.

28-year-old Bryan Robert Craycraft of Marquette, MI was arrested In Dickinson County in connection with am alleged domestic assault this weekend.

Police are investigating Craycraft in connection with the alleged domestic assault involving his girlfriend and four-month-old baby, sources familiar with the probe tell us. We are still waiting for more details.

In an online post the victim stated what CrayCraft did “is sick” and he “deserves to be brought to justice.”

Calling him a scumbag, the alleged victim stated Craycraft was wanted for “abuse he (allegedly) caused to a four-month-old baby,”

Meanwhile Craycraft was a stabbing victim in another case involving the actual birth mother of his child.

24-year-old Samantha Kennedy McFerrin of Gwinn, MI was booked into the Marquette County Jail on Jan. 3, 2018 on three felonies.

McFerrin is charged with felonious assault, assault with intent to do bodily harmless than murder and making a false police report. No bond is set.

Law enforcement has not released details of the case, including what agency handled the investigation.

McFerrin has addresses listed in Gwinn and Marquette in recent years.

In June 2015, McFerrin, then 21, was basically sentenced to time served (46 days) and fined almost $1,000 in Marquette County District Court for larceny between $200-$1,000.

McFerrin studied cosmetology at Northern Michigan University, her Facebook page states. McFerrin is a 2014 graduate of the Marquette Alternative High School, according to her numerous Facebook pages. One of McFerrin’s recent photos apparently shows her holding her newborn baby.

20-year-old Bailey Allen LaRocca of Marquette, MI was booked into the Marquette County Jail at 6:23 a.m. ET, this morning, Mon. April 23, 2018

La Rocca has been released on bond after being charged with domestic assault.

The amount of the bond was not released, but often is personal recognizance bond.

Kaupilla is charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
He was apparently released on bond late Sunday morning.
Kauppila was booked into the MCJ on March 2, 2018 and charged with sex offender failure to register and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor (OUIL).

In Marquette County Circuit Court during June 2016, Kauppila was sentenced to 180 days jail and five years probation plus about $800 in fines/costs for being a sex offender who failed to comply with the law.
In Sept. 2010, Kauppila was convicted in Marquette of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct (multiple variables).

The poor girl has been dealing with the devil named meth for over 7 years. She was set to be off parole in July 2019. One of her convictions involves selling fake meth to undercover agents.

Fosco got off probation last July for a drug crime – delivery/manufacture of a narcotic/cocaine.

33-year-old David Richard Lampinen of Marquette, MI remains jailed without bond in Marquette County.
Lampinen was arrested on April 9, 2018 and charged with possession of a Schedule 1, 2, 3, and 4 narcotic, resisting arrest/obstructing justice, receiving and concealing stolen property under $200, and second-degree retail fraud.

Lampinen, then 25 years old, was among several people arrested in 2008 by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team for trafficking in crack cocaine that was shipped up from Chicago. In 2010, Lampinen was sentenced to nearly 5 years (57 months) in federal prison. One defendant committed suicide before trial.

(Ironwood, MI) – For the second time in five years, an Ironwood woman has been charged with operating a meth lab.

47-year-old Michelle Lee Kitto of 134 S. Mansfield Street in Ironwood, MI was arrested late this morning after an officer showed up at her door with a bench warrant.

Kitto, also known as Michelle Lee Rappley, was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Central Time, this afternoon Monday, April 23, 2018.

Kitto was arrested on the warrant and had a bond totaling almost $9,000.
Kitto was arrested on a Gogebic County Circuit Court bench warrant for failure to appear in court for new felony charge of operating and maintaining a meth lab.

Details of Kittos latest arrest is not known. So far, officials had not announced another meth raid.

That wasn’t the case five years ago:

Kitto was among three people arrested in May 2013 following Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team (GIANT) drug raids at homes in Gogebic County including 229 South Mansfield Street – a block from today’s arrest.

However five years ago, it took two state drug teams to cleanup the mess left after the meth lab was raided and Kitto was arrested.

At the time, GIANT called in the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) to assist in cleaning up both locations that were raided.

Kitto was charged with five counts of operating or maintaining a meth lab and one count of operating or maintaining a drug lab in the presence of a minor – and held on a $200,0000 bond.

Under a plea bargain, Kitto pleaded guilty in April 2014 to one count of operating and maintaining a meth lab.

She received a two-year sentence – however it is unclear how long she actually spent in prison or jail.

Kitto was discharged from probation in April 2016.

(Baraga, MI) – An Upper Peninsula law enforcement officer busted a known embezzler wanted on felony drug charges on Monday afternoon during a traffic stop in Baraga, MI.

Arrested was 35-year-old Tiffany Gail Custer – a Houghton County parolee – and wanted for felony drugs and use of amphetamines.

The bust was made by either the Michigan State Police, Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, KBIC Tribal Police of Baraga Police – or another agency. The radio ID of the officer is Adam 4. Wanted to give credit where credit is due – so tell us if you know. We have been told conflicting info on what agency made bust

The suspect was stopped about 4 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon, March 26, 2018 on Superior Avenue in Baraga driving an SUV belong to her ex-mother-in-law.

Without permission, Custer was driving a Chevrolet Blazer that belonged to her victim in the embezzlement case – her former mother-in-law Rose Edwards of Superior Avenue in Baraga, MI.

Embezzlement victim Edwards was recuperating from a serious accident when – her son’s ex-wife (Custer) admits stealing about $28,000.

That vehicle’s license plate (tag) expired in February, and Custer was not given permission to drive the vehicle.

A computer checked showed Custer was wanted on two warrants out of the Baraga County.

The warrants are:

Felony warrant for dangerous drugs with no bond

“Violation of condition 10” of her forgery/embezzlement convictions using methamphetamines and amphetamines and a $25,000 cash bond

Both warrants had an Upper Peninsula pick-up

Custer’s driver’s license is suspended and expired in 2015.

The suspension stemming from a driving offense of allowing someone to drive who is not allowed under state law in March 2015.

The officer first ran the name of Tiffany Gail Friisvall – one of the aliases listed by the state of Michigan.

Under that name the two felony warrants appeared. Then the officer requested the last name of Custer – and she was suspended.

Friisvall was apparently given probation by a judge – but still an MDOC inmate page as Tiffany Gail Custer and the MDOC listed the alias of Tiffany Gail Friisvall.

Custer was released on probation to Houghton County on March 1, 2016. She is on probation until same date in 2019.

Custer was sentenced on March 1, 2016 for the June 2015 felony offenses of forgery, plus uttering & publishing – and embezzlement by person of trust more than $1,000 but less than $20,000.

She was sentenced to a maximum of three years in prison, however state records indicate she was put on probation on the same day as sentencing (MDOC files have been known to contain errors but are usually accurate).

(Munising, MI) – At least one person remains jailed today after a meth lab raid in Alger County on Friday, according to multiple sources.

Few details are known about the meth lab raid.

The raid happened on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Another said the raid was one of the main topics of discussion in Munising bars on Friday night.

The bust was said to be in the city of Munising.

It was one of several meth and illegal drug sales raids across the U.P. this week, including a huge bust in Marquette.

Officials had not released any info on the raid by Saturday afternoon.

40-year-old Hiedi Jean Rzanca of Munising, MI has been booked into the Alger County Jail.

Rzanca remained jail on Saturday.

Rzanca also has past addresses in other U.P. counties including the city’s of Gwinn and Escanaba, according to online tracking sites.

Rzanca is expected to faces charges related to operating a meth lab.

Rzanca is a single, stay-at-home mother, according to her Facebook page.

It is not clear how much alleged meth or meth components were confiscated.

During the armed robbery, Zardus took $345 after threatening to shoot a store clerk with a BB handgun.

Zardus and his co-defedants bought the BB gun at the Marquette Wal-Mart.

Zardus also picked up a weapons charge in 2009 while a state prisoner. Zardus was paroled to Marquette County after his release from state prison on March 7, 2017.
He was on parole/probation until March 2019.

(Baraga County, MI) – At least one member of a Baraga County couple jailed in the eastern U.P. for suspected meth distribution served time for dealing a powerfully addictive drug with an extreme amphetamine-like buzz called bath salts – one of several drug epidemics that have swept the U.P. since the 90s.

34-year-old Kristin Ellen Bergeron of Pelkie, MI was one of two people arrested on Wed., March 14, 2018 in Mackinac County by troopers from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post.

Bergeron and her “civil union” partner – also 34 years old – are expected to face meth distribution-related  charges in Baraga County. Detectives also confiscated a weapon.

Federal prosecutors got a guilty plea from Bergeron in 2014  for being involved in a bath salts ring. She was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison – no parole. (scroll down to read press release).

Federal agents worked hard with U.P. drug teams to wipe out the bath salts epidemic that swept the U.P. in the late 2010. Another big epidemic that swept northern Michigan was CAT – or methcathinone. The drugs all provided a speed like buzz – with ghastly side-effects.

Why meth is worst so far: God Bless our drug teams but they do not have the funding and manpower to make a dent in the problem including funds for massive operation  going after those who ship ephedrine to the U.P. – or drive it here

All these highly-addictive drugs happened to otherwise good people in the Upper Peninsula, where family values still have a credible meaning.

The drugs simply changed them – consuming the lives of the addicts – though rehab helps. That’s another problem

If there were more treatment facilities in the U.P. lots more people could become healthy instead of choosing the abyss. Remember if you love the person, do not be judgmental- as addicts already know what they have done.
The meth epidemic and the drop in heroin prices have led to the worst of the epidemics so far – due to the vast number of users (and poverty) – versus relatively small police drug teams.

The drug teams could use twice the funding and manpower to really make a bigger effect – more if you want to end it for all practical purposes.
However our readers say that China is pumping ephedrine into the U.P. (a critical component of meth) – and so are dealers from bigger Midwestern cities.

With the large epidemic under way in U.P. history – its important to wipe out meth by turning in dealers and providing treatment to others (yes they are victims).

“Bath Salts”

Alpha-pyrrolidinopentiphenone, commonly known as alpha-PVP, and pentylone.

The term “bath salts” refers to a group of substances containing synthetic cathinones that all have similar chemical properties. These substances have a powerful amphetamine-like effect on the central nervous system when consumed. Synthetic cathinones are chemically similar to the natural drug cathinone, a drug that comes from khat plants in east Africa.

In Mackinac County, the pair are charged with operating under the influence of drugs and possession of methamphetamine.

During the raid, UPSET “seized several more grams of methamphetamine, as well as scales, packaging for distribution, and a firearm.”

MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN – U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar sentenced three people for their involvement in distributing two powerful “bath salts” – alpha-pyrrolidinopentiphenone, which is commonly known as alpha-PVP, and pentylone – for human consumption in the Upper Peninsula.

Scott Bernard Will, age 56, of Mass City, Michigan, received a sentence of 137 months (11 ½ years) in federal prison. Last December, a federal jury in Marquette found Will guilty of distributing and conspiring to distribute alpha-PVP and pentylone in Baraga and Houghton Counties. In imposing the sentence, Judge Edgar commented on Will’s extensive criminal history, noting that Will was a “walking crime wave.”

Also sentenced were Derrick John Guzek, age 34, also of Mass City, and Kristen Ellen Bergeron, age 31, of Pelkie, Michigan. Guzek received a sentence of 16 months in prison while Bergeron was sentenced to 18 months.

The evidence presented at trial showed that Will began selling bath salts in the Marquette area in 2011. He was jailed for his activities from June 2011 until November 2012. But, upon release from jail, he went back to selling the substances. Will’s sales of alpha-PVP and pentylone in Baraga and Houghton Counties in early 2013 drew the attention of the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs.

An undercover officer made a number of purchases of these substances from Mr. Will and his co-conspirators in March and April 2013. He and his co-conspirators were arrested in April 2013. Guzek and Bergeron pled guilty and testified for the government. Will went to trial in Marquette on December 9, 2013.

As part of its case, the government presented testimony from users who said that the bath salts sold to them by Will were extremely powerful and addictive. They reported staying up for days after injecting the substances, and experiencing psychosis, paranoia and suicidal thoughts. Judge Edgar noted that the users were “physically wrecked by these drugs.”

The evidence at trial showed Will specifically targeted people with drug problems by offering the substances for free. Once the user was hooked, Will charged up to $200 per gram.

This case was investigated by the Michigan State Police as part of the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Maarten Vermaat and Paul D. Lochner prosecuted the case.

On Thursday, March 15, 2018 – agents from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement team (UPSET) raided the couple’s home near Pelkie, MI. UPSET executed a search warrant at the couple’s residence on Puuri Road in Baraga County.

Bergeron’s 34-year-old male partner was jailed in Mackinac County – but is no longer listed as an inmate.

Baraga County is among the growing number of  U.P. counties who refuse to publicly release info on booked suspects – so it is unclear if he is out on bond – or has been transferred.

(Upper Peninsula of Michigan) – It was an alcohol and drug fueled start to the weekend across the Upper Peninsula with several people taken to the hospital and others arrested on assault and drug charges including another methamphetamine bust.

Examples of the intoxicated craziness in Marquette included several incidents that police, firefighters and paramedics were called to respond.

Early today, a 20-year-old female who was found unconscious on the second floor landing at the 906 Sports Bar and Grill in Marquette. She was still unconscious while being rushed to the hospital. The victim’s friend said she was unsure if the highly-intoxicated young woman fell down the stairs – or dropped to the ground at the stairwell landing.

On Friday night, emergency officials were called to an intoxicated, injured and stressed out man on the fifth floor of the old Marquette orphanage on Altamont Street – that is now refurbished apartments. Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to help an injured intoxicated man whose arm was bleeding after he had been repeatedly pounding and kicking on an apartment door – apparently trying to find his residence.

Meanwhile in Alger County, a bloodied, black-eyed man is his 20s was assaulted and found “gasping for air” laying in the parking lot of a Trenary bar. The names of two popular bars were mentioned, however it was unclear which nightspot the incident occurred. He was treated by emergency officials. U.P. Breaking News is not sure if arrest has been made.

Plus at one of the U.P. casinos early today, management called police about two parents who were leaving young kids alone in their hotel room while they partied and gambled.

In the Marquette area Friday night, one man was arrested on about a dozen charges after police and undercover officers stopped at least one vehicle that tried to flee the unmarked police car that finally stopped at
Wright Street and Woodland Avenue,
There was also investigations at several addresses on/along Woodridge Avenue and another nearby location.

The charges against Rose include assault and battery, illegal use of a non-narcotic controlled substance, second degree retail fraud, malicious destruction to a building with damages between $200 and $1,000, unlawful use of a motor vehicle/joyriding, driving an unregistered vehicle, and second-offense driving with a suspended/revoked license.
Bond has not been set on all the of the charges, however so far it totals at least $20,000 and likely more.
Rose has other convictions including a 2015 arrest for third-offense driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated/impaired by liquor or under the influence of drugs, and a 2002 bust for third-offense OUIL.

A Manistique couple – who are dating – were both arrested in Delta County last night on several felony charges.

27-year-old Samantha Jo Jenerou of Manistique, MI was booked into the Delta County Detention Center (DCDC) at 11:34 p.m. ET on Friday night, March 16, 2018.

Jenerou is being held as a fugitive/parole hold.
Jenerou is jailed without bond.
In Jan. 2013, Jenerou was sentenced to at least four years in prison for a string of burglaries in Schoolcraft County.
Jenerou said her life of crime started when she became addicted to drugs while depressed.
Jenerou faced 11 felonies in Schoolcraft County for the 2012 burglaries, however under a plea bargain she pleaded guilty to first-degree home invasion, second-degree home invasion and third-degree home invasion.
She was paroled from state prison in June 2016.

A convicted sex offender who is out of prison serving probation in Delta County – has been arrested for violating his probation.

25-year-old Alec Jeffrey VanEnkevort of Escanaba, Mi was booked into the DCDC at 11:08 p.m. ET on Friday night, March 16, 2018.

VanEnkevort is being held as a fugitive/probation violation. VanEnkevort is jailed without bond.

VanEnkevort, then 20 years old, was convicted of a Jan. 2012 fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) by force or coercion that occurred in Delta County. He admitted raping a woman in Wells Township.

VanEnkevort was released from state prison on probation in Nov. 2013.
VanEnkevort will remain on probation until at least Nov. 26, 2918.
