(Marquette, MI) – A Marquette County man is jailed on numerous charges for the third time in a month after taking his grandparent’s car without permission tonight, crashing it near the Marquette County Courthouse – and then fleeing on foot.

22-year-old Richard Patrick Voet was booked into the Marquette County Jail about 9 p.m. on numerous charges including hit-and-run/leaving the scene of an accident, driving repeatedly on a suspended/revoked license and unlawfully driving an automobile (UDAA).

In March 2018, Voet was arrested in two separate domestic violence cases.

The suspect was driving a gray Pontiac and when he crashed into a red Ford Ranger – heavily damaging both vehicles.

Voet took foot bond and left his grandparent’s smashed vehicle in the middle of the intersection – at Third Street and Baraga Avenue in Marquette, MI.

“The guy took off on foot,” said an Marquette Police department officer investigating the crash.

The hit and run crash happened just after 7 p.m. ET tonight, Saturday, April 7, 2018.
The crash is just feet from the steps of the Marquette County Courthouse – the same courthouse the man will be prosecuted.

Voet was last seen walking west along Washington Street from Third Street wearing a hoodie and carrying a big bag. About an hour after the wreck, Voet called 911 and told police he wanted to surrender.

The Pontiac he crashed belongs to Rose Maki of K.I. Sawyer

No one was hurt in the wreck. The name of the owner of the other vehicle was not immediately available.

Both vehicles were towed by Marquette Detailing wrecker service.
Voet has addresses listed in several Marquette County cities including Ishpeming and Negaunee.

When the crash happened, Voet was out on $10,000 bond in connection with two domestic violence cases.
Voet was booked into the Marquette County Jail on Fri. night, March 10, 2018 on a charge of second-offense domestic violence/assault.
A week earlier, Voet was booked into the MCJ on Sat. night, March 3, 2018 for domestic assault in the first case.

In July 2015, Voet, then 19, of Negaunee ultimately served three days in jail for assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer and failure to stop after collision.

He was also placed on a year’s probation and ordered to pay $3,000 in fines/costs

Drug/Needle Disposal Sites in Marquette County

(Gwinn, MI) – Most Marquette County residents are aware of the relentless drug problems facing the community including at the former K.I. Sawyer near Gwinn, MI

But its still rare to hear about people poked by random needles and becoming infected at the former air force base – that the military left in its dust over 20 years ago.

A K.I. Sawyer woman was rushed to the hospital in Marquette this morning after possibly becoming infected by a needle while taking clothes out of a dryer.

An ambulance was called for the victim at 12:01 a.m. ET this morning, April 2, 2018.

The ambulance was sent to a residence on the 300 block of Commando Street at K.I. Sawyer for the woman who feared she had contracted an infection after she was “poked with a needle” apparently earlier – although the time frame hasnot been released.

Dispatched to the call at 312 Commando St. were Skandia/West Branch EMS and U.P. Health System-Marquette paramedics

“Apparently she was taking clothes out of a dryer and was poked by the needle,” a Marquette County 911 dispatcher radioed paramedics en-route to the incident.

“It’s unknown who it (the needle/syringe) belongs to or if it was used,” the dispatcher told responding paramedics. “She is having pain in her left arm that she was poked in and also states her veins look funny.”

Officials have not released information on the incident including the location of the dryer identified by the victim.

Manhunt for two men wanted by police for questioning in a brutal morning home invasion and robbery at K.I. Sawyer

(K.I. Sawyer, MI) – Police are searching for two men that they know well for questioning – after a brazen pre-dawn robbery, felonious assault, home invasion and a scary attack on a Gwinn area woman.

The robbery and home invasion was reported at 5 a.m. ET this morning, March 21, 2018 at the former K.I. Sawyer air force base.

Police are seeking 31-year-old Sean David McNamara and 31-year-old Bradley “Brad” Paul Benzie for questioning.

The Sawyer area men are well-known to police – and McNarama is a Michigan parole absconder who has been charged in another home invasion and many other crimes (See his MDOC file below).

In an odd fact, this morning’s home invasion – and McNamara’s 2014 Marquette home invasion – were both pulled off at 5 a.m.
The attack was reported by Heather Remillard at 217 Venture Street in West Branch Township at K.I. Sawyer. Remillard lives at the K.I. Sawyer address and is a Negaunee native.

The victim was thrown to the floor and her purse was stolen during the home invasion. One suspect was wearing a bandana as a mask, gloves and large rubber boots.

“Someone just broke into her house wearing a black Carhartt jacket,” the dispatcher told responding law enforcement vehicles. The suspect “had a mask on, threw on the floor and took her purse.”

The victim was not seriously hurt.

Those searching for the two men including a Michigan State Police K-9 tracking dog, the Forsyth Township Police department and the Marquette County Sheriff’s department.

The suspects left though the front door of the home – and were last seen running south (opposite direction of near headstart preschool). Scroll down to see a further description of McNamara.

In Nov. 2014, McNamara, then 28, was busted for a Marquette home invasion during which a TV, computer, radio and more were stolen at 5 a.m. on August 12, 2014 from 513 Wright Street.

In October 2014, McNamara was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison in plea deal.
However, by November 2017 McNamara was named as parole absconder by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

(K.I. Sawyer International Airport) – It left shortly after noon today (Nov. 25, 2017) but left behind quite a chopper.

It is likely the South Korean helicopter is one of its very newest.

Cargo Plane by Mary FosterA massive Russian cargo plane landed at the K.I. Sawyer International Airport – and brought in a Korean helicopter for winter testing. Every winter Sawyer is used to test de-icing and other equipment – and use our cutting edge weather to help make those aircraft safe when they are deployed elsewhere.

Attempts to reach the airport manager at work and his cell have not yet been successful.

About 11:30 a.m., two law enforcement officers were discussing the plane. The sight was so impressive that one officer strongly encouraged his fellow officer to see the mega plane before it leaves (left) Sawyer.

The police and emergency audio from this week’s murder of Robbin Lampinen of K.I. Sawyer, with her roots in Big Bay.

This is the first 30 minutes of the murder event – and it has been condensed into just under 6 minutes (5:40 condensed length).

U.P. Breaking News removed most of the pauses between conversations.

We also took out most of the info about the suspect’s vehicle because the description was close but wrong for the first few hours.

In addition took out the name of the caller (suspect’s mom) who reports the murder, and names of some of the victim’s neighbors.

Dispatched at 12:52 a.m. on Wed., Dec. 15, 2016

First police officers arrived at crime scene at 1:04 a.m.

“She is deceased in the bedroom,” the mother of the suspect reported her son said. “He has been drinking and has a history of DV” (domestic violence).

“He left the doors open,” the 911 dispatcher said quoting the suspect’s mother.

“We are inside the residence,” said the first officer on the scene.

“Clear the air,” the dispatcher told all cars.

“There is blood,” the officer said as the police slowly crept into the open residence at xxx Dart street.

Then they clear the house as the find the body.

“She is stiff, may have been here a while,” an officer said. “But unknown the circumstances.”

“We’re clear, you are with the deceased and the body is stiff,” the dispatcher acknowledged.

“Right the rest of the house is clear,” the officer answered back.

U.P. Breaking News will be doing an update on this case this weekend as we have spoken with family members on all sides.

Call 906-273-2433 to reach Greg

(K.I. Sawyer, MI) – A relative of the suspect and a good friend of the victim says he “was shocked” about this morning’s murder at K.I. Sawyer in Marquette County, MI – but said methamphetamines allegedly had an all-to-familiar hold on the couple – including the suspect who the cousin says has a history of alleged domestic violence and served prison time.

The cousin of the suspect also says the victim was one of the sweetest souls you would ever want to meet.
The victim “had one helluva kind soul and a soft heart,” said the suspect’s cousin Phillip Carlstrom from his home in Quincy, IL. The victim “would give you the shirt off her back.”

However, to make it more tragic the cousin says it was widely known that both – the suspect and victim – were allegedly involved in many drugs including allegedly meth.

U.P. Breaking News has so far been unable to get a hold of Gutzman’s alleged arrest and conviction record to substantiate domestic violence allegations.

Carlstrom said the story had to be told to help explain how deadly and addictive meth is – and has spread at K.I. Sawyer despite the best efforts of drug teams across the U.P. like UPSET.

Plus with all the painkillers being stolen or sold – lots have turned to heroin,  Carlstrom said.

murder-kisawyer-3

51-year-old Darrell Wayne Gutzman was arrested for questioning after a five to six hour manhunt. The Michigan State Police Crime lab processed the scene. The Forsyth Township Police Department is handling the murder investigation.

murder-kisawyer-1Few details are being released on the Dart Street murder that corrupted early today Thurs., Dec. 15, 2016 when the suspect’s mom reportedly called police to say her son had alleged confession to the  alleged stabbing death – and even had left the doors open for officers to find the body. They did. And a bloody crime scene. An autopsy is expected to be held.

Several people have provided the victim’s name to U.P. Breaking News because they say relatives have been notified – however we are waiting a while longer for Forsyth Township Police to make an announcement.

Carlstrom said something needs to be done to provide more personal counseling and real hands-on treatment for many these days due to the scourge of meth.

“Darrell got help while he was in prison,” said Carlstrom about attempts to get clean from drugs.
Carlstrom said Gutzman and his girlfriend had and on-and-off relationship for decades – sometimes story – and trouble usually happens when the suspect was allegedly intoxicated.

“She was mess up – they had both been (allegedly) doing meth,” he said, adding the entire U.P. has been infested with the meth, heroin and painkillers crisis.
