(Marquette, MI) – A downstate man who took police on a high speed chase that killed his friend five years ago was paroled to live in Marquette – but he’s allegedly violated that parole and headed back to prison.

Gavinm Enright mugshotnight of arrest24-year-old Gavin Enright was booked into the Marquette County Jail at 3:20 p.m. on Mon. Dec. 5, 2017. Enright has enjoyed a year and three months of parole while living in Marquette, MI. However Enright is being held on an inmate detainer for a parole violation that could send him back to prison for many years.

Enright served about 3 years of a 15 years sentence on numerous felonies related to a high speed chase and the death of a friend in the car Enright was driving.

On Jan. 2, 2013, Enright was sentenced to 4 to 15 years in prison in Macomb County after he pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death and first degree fleeing from a police officer in connection with a June 22, 2012 high speed chase.

Enright was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon SUV that rolled over on I-94 – after leading police on a brief high speed chase. A police officer spotted Enright and his friend driving with the headlights off – the officer tried to make a traffic stop and the SUV sped away at high speed.

The speeding SUV rolled numerous times. The incident began about 3:10 a.m. on June 22, 2012 in a quiet subdivision and Enright led police to the on ramp of I-94. About 10 minutes before the chase Enright’s father called 911 to report his son was driving without a license.

Enright was charged with 15 felonies. Six months later, Enright pleaded guilty to two felonies and the other charges were dropped. Killed instantly was Enright’s friend – 21-year-old Donald Larrel Smelser-Emerson of Clinton Township.
