(Stephenson Township, MI) – State and local firefighters – aided by DNR aircraft – have been fighting dozens of wildfires whipped by high winds and lots of dry ground fuel.
People worked fanatically to get “all the animals out” of a flaming cow barn at a popular dairy farm – that burned to the ground and is still on fire.
The blaze was reported about 1:30 p.m. Central Time today, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Pleasant View Dairy Farm located at N8480 Meintz Road in Stephenson Township, MI.

The farm is operated by Harry L. Meintz, according to online records. It is unclear if all the animals managed to survive.
Just prior to that firefighters battled grass and brush fires in Menominee, Delta counties including on Cemetery Road.
Friday evening, fire officials put out a brush fire that got out of control on the Big Bay Road in Negaunee Township.
The DNR has several pilots in the air reporting smoke as they fly across the U.P. and then offer guidance to ground crews trying to battle the unpredictable wind-whipped fires.
Those fighting the barn fire include the MI DNR, the Daggett Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Stephenson Fire Department.
There was also a large garage and house fire early Saturday in Rudyard, MI.
“There are still three distinct fires,” said one of the pilots observing wildfires in Menominee County, MI.
“The wind has calmed down and so have the flare-ups a little bit,” the pilot said offering a little bit of hope and relief to ground crews.
Just as we were posting this story, firefighters were dispatched to a small porch fire at the Last Chance Tavern at 1100 Vulcan St. in Iron Mountain, MI.
