URGENT URGENT URGENT – 10-18-16 4 A.M. – FLOODING/WATER RESCUES IN MARQUETTE COUNTY: RESCUE UNDERWAY AT SOME HOMES ALONG CHOCOLAY RIVER
Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, USCG emergency water rescues along Chocolay River in the Green Garden Rd. area – Ambulances, Rescue boats and officials rescued numerous people.
Portions of U.S.-41 south have been closed.
6 A.M. – THE U.S. RED CROSS IS ASSISTING VICTIMS WITH HOTEL ROOMS IF NEEDED – MARQTRAN ASSISTING WITH TRANSPORTATION
At 5:40 a.m. a door-to-door warning to be delivered residents on Timber Lane, the Chocolay Township Incident Command ordered.
Schools buses have been ordered to stay away from flooding areas.
At 5:36 a.m. – officials called for the U.S. Coast Guard to send a boat/manpower to Green Garden Rd. area.
Please check your family in these areas – and stay away from rising flood waters. Firefighters, search and rescue and firefighters rescued at least two residents and dog by a boat.
SEVEN PEOPLE AND THEIR PETS RESCUED BY 5:30 A.M. – AT LEAST 5 MORE BEING RESCUED
Sand River Road and Magnum Road reported under threat of flooding.
5 people wading to authorities/being rescued 5:25 a.m.
Another Green Garden home is reporting more trapped – one person, one dog and a cat among the new calls (5:15 a.m.).
Deputies on scene reported two other nearby residents tried to wade out and are clinging to a tree to be rescued (5:20 a.m.).
Barricades are up. Other rescues underway
County Road 545 is flooding.
Over 100 yards of pooling river surrounding the house – firefighters trying to help by wading – boats in route. The Chocolay River River is at “bridge level” and will wash the road out if it rises a couple more feet.
Flood alert has been issues by the national Weather Service – as four inches of rain have fallen.
Victims reported they were in their home waiting to be rescued on the home’s second story.

* AT 506 AM EDT...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS AND MEMBERS OF THE
PUBLIC HAVE REPORTED FLASH FLOODING IN PORTIONS OF THE CHOCOLAY
RIVER BASIN IN EASTERN MARQUETTE COUNTY DUE TO HEAVY RAINS THAT
FELL SINCE MONDAY EVENING.
* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
HARVEY...SKANDIA...SHOT POINT...CARLSHEND AND BEAVER GROVE.
FLOOD WATERS ARE MOVING DOWN THE CHOCOLAY RIVER FROM NEAR CARLSHEND
AND SKANDIA TO HARVEY. STATE POLICE REPORTED THAT HIGHWAY 41 BETWEEN
HEIDTMAN ROAD AND YALMER ROAD IS FLOODED AND THAT M-94 HAS A WASHOUT
BETWEEN COUNTY ROAD 545 AND ENHMAN LAKE ROAD. THE RIVER FORECAST
CENTER HAS BEEN ACTIVATED TO PROVIDE FORECASTS AT THE GAUGED SITE
DOWNSTREAM NEAR HARVEY. ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS WILL BE ISSUED AS
INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
