U.S. Attorney’s Office June 28, 2012
Western District of Michigan (616) 456-2404
MARQUETTE, MI—Anthony Leonard Eagle, Jr., 28, of L’Anse, Michigan, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for assault resulting in serious bodily injury, U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced today.

In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar ordered Eagle to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison, to pay a $100 special assessment, and to pay ongoing restitution, currently calculated at $122,373.87.
On March 28, 2012, Eagle pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

The charge stemmed from an incident outside the Cue Master Bar in Baraga, Michigan, on January 27, 2012. During this incident, Eagle confronted the victim both inside and outside the bar. Once outside, Eagle struck the victim twice with such force that the victim suffered traumatic brain injury.

The victim was found in the parking lot of the Cue Master Bar several hours later, unconscious and suffering extreme hypothermia. Doctors at Marquette General Hospital were able to revive the victim by using a unique treatment that re-heats the blood.
The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police and the FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuted the case.
