Wednesday morning explosion at Calumet Township home turns into house fire

“Fully involved” house fire reported in Calumet township after homeowner reports an explosion

(Calumet Township, MI) – Explosion reported as home as at least three fire departments have been paged to fight a “fully-involved” house fire.
The homeowner call 911 to reported a basement explosion that blew out his windows about 8:50 a.m. ET this morning, April 18, 2018.

The fire is reported at 106 Tamarack Waterworks Road in Calumet Township.

“As soon as the aerial (truck) gets here put a camera up in the rear of the house,” said one fire officials from Laurium. “Take your time because it is slippery, but we do need that camera though.”

The single story residence is owned/occupied by the 36-year-old Philip John Roberts and his wife, according to online voting records. Roberts is registered to vote in Keweenaw County, MI.

The Calumet Township Volunteer Fire Department fire chief has requested mutual aid from the Laurium Village Volunteer Fire Department and a taker from the Allouez Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The explosion reportedly rattled the home and blew out lower windows.
The occupants escaped the flame and are OK.
Fire officials have requested Sanders because the road is so slick.
No injuries have been reported.
