Breaking News Bulletin – 3-27-18 8:25 p.m. ET – 7:35 p.m. CT Funeral services planned this Thursday, March 29, 2018 for Iron Mountain native 21-year-old Jacob Allen Weslin – who was killed in that Sunday rollover accident on County Road 550 in Marquette County. A close friend from Iron Mountain was injured – Driver 21-year-old Austin Mitchell of Ishpeming, MI was treated and released from U.P. Health System-Marquette.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 am – 2 pm CT at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Funeral Service will follow at 2pm at the funeral home. Pastor Kevin Sullivan will officiate.
3-26-18: Victims identified
Passenger 21-year-old Jacob “Jake” Weslin of Marquette, MI was killed.
Before graduation, Weslin was an Iron Mountain Mountainers wrestler.
Driver 21-year-old Austin Mitchell of Ishpeming, MI was treated and released from U.P. Health System-Marquette. Mitchell is also an iron Mountain native.
The pair are friends from Iron Mountain.

Driver hurt, passenger killed in Sunday morning accident on CR-550 just north of Sugar Loaf Mountain

(Marquette Township) – One person was killed and another seriously injured in rollover into a utility pole on County Road 550 that closed the road for more than two hours and stopped mine truck traffic.
The crash was reported about 4:55 a.m. this morning Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Marquette Township. As of 8:05 a.m., the crash still has the CR-550 down to one lane – with intermittent lanes allowed to pass – and will be closed at times.
The southbound car sheered a power pole.
A one car accident has left the driver with serious injuries and his passenger was killed. As of 8:05 a.m., officials still had extricate the fatality from the demolished vehicle. The road will be down to one lane, and closed occasionally for at least another hour.
The male driver was able to free himself and was walking, however was bleeding from the face/head.
A Michigan State Police accident investigator has been assigned to the wreck.
It happened near/or in a curve on CR-550 about a half mile south of Sugar Loaf Mountain. County Road 550 was closed for more than two hours. The mine was told to stop sending trucks that way as officers investigated the crash.
The vehicle apparently hit a utility pole. The Marquette Board of Light and Power was called to deal with the power lines. Assisting on the scene were the Marquette Township Volunteer Fire Department, Marquette Police, NMU Public Safety, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and U.P. Health System-Marquette 141 paramedics and ambulance.
The names of those involved have not been released.
